Electromagnetic Pulse - Soviet Test 184 - EMP

Electromagnetic pulse is a strange and mysterious phenomenon to most of the general public. Even for most of us who have read and studied a lot about EMP over the years, something that is even more strange and mysterious is the Soviet Union's series of nuclear tests in space, most notably the test known only as K-3 or Test 184. These EMP-producing tests were done over a large populated land mass in Kazakhstan. Even though the economic state of Kazakhstan in 1962 was quite primitive by today's standards, it was heavily industrialized and electrified.

I would love to know all the effects of Russia ever releases what happened. And that was in the 60's before delicate micro chips and solid state electronics.

I've read elsewhere that it's hypothesized that Russia learned a great deal about the effects ts of EMP and built a strategy around it. the premise was they designed super EMP yielding warheads. They were working on ways to make stronger and faster E pulse waves with relatively small warheads. It was theorized that the Soviets/Russia would use them as a first strike in their next war to blind and confuse their enemy command and control.

According to Dr. Pry, after the fall of the Soviet union those nuclear physicist scientists packed up and went to work for North Korea....

I believe the EMP is the threat that concerns our government about North Korea. Lil' Kim did have a successful "satellite" launch a few months back. That missile with a nuclear warhead could put large sections of our country back into the stone age if it shuts down some of the grids.

An emp strike has been on my mind for years. ... I am not prepared for it. If I had $ 20-30,000 fall into my lap It would be doable. ... some what... Everyone talks about emp proofing a car ... In my line of thinking a Tractor would be better. Gets you back to that hedge row for firewood if nothing else. It does one no good to fell a tree 2000 feet from your home and have to hand carry it all back. Not at my age .

Unless you have boat loads of cash there isn't much you can practically do to be ready to survive an EMP. Just things in general that wouldn't be a bad idea to do like,

Having guns and ammo (i think everyone on this forum is good for this)

Have a method for indoor heat, fireplave, wood stove an wood on hand at your home.

Store long term food. Even buying rice, and dry beans and put them in Mylar bags with oxygen absorbers. Very cheap preservation method and would last many years. Canned goods are good too. I've read that as long as can is not dented or compromised it should be good forever they just may gradually lose some nutritional value. Freeze dried good is great but way more expensive compared to storing your own beans and rice. You could spend 200$ on dry beans, rice, pasta, Noodles etc and store it yourself and have months worth of food. It wouldn't taste great and it would get boring but you wouldn't be starving to death. Obviously supplemented with meat, spices, flavoring, veggies, fruits..

Have gardening supplies and seeds stored and available for planting. You will need to grow a garden. Plant berry bushes in your yard, plant Apple trees, etc.. Try to grow vegetables in planters indoors in the winter even.

Fishing supplies (since everyone will be hinting the game will quickly be depleted, everything gone.)

A method of getting safe water

Try to stock up on any needed medications or vitamins.

Maybe make a home made faraday cage to store some things that may be useful. Like a solar charger and rechargeable batteries, comma stuff, old smart phones, ham or 2way radio, old laptop etc.. Store manuals and instructions electronically if in faraday cage it should be protected.

And right there puts you ahead of 95% of people cheaply, easily and gives you a fighting chance to survive.


Obviously if you have 50,000 lying around you can come up with a really good plan but for a regular person just doing those simple things would be a huge help. Just a few things off the top of my head. Hope it helps.
