funny to see these birds protecting there find and then we have sea gulls .. tweet tweet at the site of food and 8000 relatives show up for a french fry ..
My yard has been pretty much overrun with them since spring this year. Never seen anything like it before.
I don't enjoy hunting animals at all, but they'd done so much damage and frankly have become a liability issue. I don't want to have someone wanting to sue when they stick a foot in a hole and bust an ankle.
I killed two especially large ones about a month ago. Both of them insta-kill headshots with a .22lr pistol w/red dot.
There were (maybe still are) two smaller ones that gave me far more trouble, but I MIGHT have gotten them. I had to take longer shots on the smaller two as they were far more skiddish and hard to get. One big problem has been that I'm limited pretty much to using the CCI Quiet-22 rounds because of my area. It's not as humane as I'd like, because those suckers are tough, but I had to do something about it and I'd undoubtedly have had the cops here if I were using anything louder (and more appropriate to the job).
Those first two, with the headshots, were fine but the two smaller ones I only think I made a hit but in both cases they ran away into the taller grass before I could confirm or finish them kindly.
I'm fairly certain there is still one large one out there that I've spotted a few times, however after the second smaller pair I blocked off all the holes I could find and haven't seen any activity or new holes since. So, here's hoping the infestation is over.
I took pictures of the first two really large ones before disposing of them. I'd post them up but I'll refrain from doing so out of respect for the folks who'd find that a bit too graphic.
