Thoughts on Smith & Wesson Model 60

Whate are your guys thoughts on purchasing a smith and wesson model 60 ..stainless .38sp for edc / backup. Seen a few on gun broker may have to make the purchase.Would be my first .38 snub nose. Pinned barrell vs non pinned and cylinder lock vs nonlockd years..

Bring a stubby you won't get as good penetration as with a handgun with a longer barrel.
On the average you get 50 more fps with every added in of barrel.

But mast defensive shooting occur ten feet or less.
For my general carry I use my Smith 642 airweight 38 + P.
I pocket carry right front pocket, over seven years with this revolver.
I chose the 642 airweght with the aluminum frame over my smith 640 -38 with the stainless frame because of the weight issue.

If going out of my small area of travel I will carry a bigger handgun with larger capacity of ammo and still.have my 642 in my front right pocket.

The model 60 is a great gun, I just havent bought one yet. But it is on my list to pick up.

You should be happy with one, most people are.

I bought a 3" .357 Model 60 with adjustable sights many years ago. I didn't see it after my wife got her unrestricted license. Nice gun. Hammer spur breaks quite often on them. Just file it smooth. Small grip does not absorb .357 recoil sufficiently for me. +P .38 Sp is fine though.

I have an older pinned barrel model 60 in 38. Shoots as well as you can you shoot it, which takes some dedicated practice. Trigger pull leaves a lot to be desired. Would take a 2 inch k-frame any day of the week over the j. It became a safe queen after picking up a 357 LCR. As for the cylinder lock, well, that has countless threads all over the internet with every opinion you could ask for.

I have a Mod 60 in .357 Mag as stated above not comfortable shooting many rounds kicks like a mule. It's fun though and overall a good gun. Never shot .38 with it but I'm sure it would be easier on the hands.

I have a model 36. It stays in the safe unless I need something for the pocket.

I would go with one of these. But don't let the dog talk you out of using .44 specials; the magnums will really kick, Dave.

I am doing carpentry and carry in.my front right pocket, so I get sawdust and other crap in my pocket, that is why i.prefer a enclosed hammer revolver. Less chance of crap getting into the mechanisms of the revolver and jamming it up. I use to pocket carry a khar pm9 until I bought the Smith 642. I sold the khar about a month after carrying the 642.

.357 model 60 is probably my favorite snubby that exists. Years ago I had a special ed. SS ladysmith 60 (don't knock it just because it's called ladysmith) and I sold it off. I completely regret selling it (Worse yet, I sold it cheap !)

Take a loom at the new Kimber k6. It’s now offered with an external hammer. It’s the size and weight of the 60 but a six shot. The three inch model will be my next revolver.
