Throw me a turkey Wing - Still a turkey virgin

in all the years ive been hunting (8) I've have never gotten a turkey yet. got my first dear years ago. I think my issue is two fold. I dont scout as I prolly should. In the finger lakes area, give me a place to start my quest as IM GONNA scout this year but if someone could give me a fightin chance. Been to Stid Hill area, around me in ontario county, but mostly have seen flock on private land with no permission. Im thinking of scouting out High Tor This weekend?
I never even see a flock while hunting. I see then during deer season!!!!
The one place I know there would be some is on BIL land but its off limits till deer season!!
would like a good fighting chance. I got into hunting for turkey!!!! Deer is just a thrown in bonus what I want is a beardey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have always tried to look for the right habitat with some woods and tall grasses and oaks and near a water source but I just dont come across flocks.

Im thinking High Tor as a lot of turkey im told in Naples area?!

I'm a turkey virgin too. I don't want to get too cocky, but I think this is my year. At my parents I continually see shit and feathers in this one area. Every time we're down there or my parents are down there. Same area. I'm stoked. I've got good cover too since it's right at the end of a private road with a mound of dirt. They walk the road. I'm going to sit behind the mound and wait for them to walk the road. Only my head will be above the mound. Then blam. At least that's my plan. How it will work I have no clue.

i'm not a Turkey fan .. every thanksgiving its a dry bird .. went to a T-day dinner once and the inners were cooked in it .. the cook didnt take take the bag out LMAO .. so not a big fan of them .. but last yr bow hunting had a dozen hens walk right past me while i was kneeling at a base of tree bow hunting deer ..

I've taken my fair share of spring Tom's, but try as I might, I have never taken a Fall turkey. Maybe this is the year!!!Hope springs eternal in breast of man!

They walk past me constantly during bow season, but I’ve never seen one big enough to entice me. I’d rather not risk ruining a deer hunt to take a turkey, unless it’s a beast. My uncle’s land is overrun with them and the state land I hunt seems to be also, but smaller birds there.

I see a lot of them at my summer place in Fishkill,but not nearly as many as I've seen on Hylan Blvd.Held up my express bus for 15 mins one day.

I hear the smaller bird in the fall taste better. For me I don't now hunt so fall turkey sounds great.

Spring Turkey hunted for long as I remember, Have tons of beards in ziplok baggies, never fall hunted them. Biggest one I got looked like a small black bear...

I killed many turkey in High Tor. Go up Parish Rd. to the top, there is a parking area on the right. You'll know you are there because you can either go start of turn left. Park and walk down the logging road, you'll see the road veers off to the left, if you keep going straight, the road starts down hill and you will see it's really nice to the right. You'll see it. If you go left where the road splits, just follow the road at some point go off the road to the right. The other area, go through Naples, turn left at E. Hill Rd., left again on Bassett, a little the pet resort, there is a parking area on the left. Park go around the gate and follow the road, to where it start going up, the will be a large stand of Pine, walk in there, even up higher up the road to the left is good.

Fall turkey is mostly walking and listening. Once you locate the flock that's where the fun starts. You need to get close, then charge the flock to break it up, if it's is mostly a hen flock, sit right there and call them back in. If it's a flock of tom's or jake's go to a higher place and call. It won't take long for either group to come back in so be ready!

You do this for several reasons, one, in most cases you will not pull one turkey away from the flock and you won't be able to call in the whole flock, too many eye's and ear and even if you do, you'll kill more than one in the flock if you shoot.

thank you for the tips on high tor. if no luck scouting there I will go to bushmasters house. The turkeys haning out with his chickens. Turkeys that think they are chickens.....Bushmaster you can call for me too as you seem to speak their language!!!!!
