I believe "years since you were born" is about as accurate a measure of maturity as shoe size. This almost seems like they are on the defensive here. Instead of tge gun grabbers proposing restrictions and us rallying a defense the opposite is happening here. The momentum is just starting to shift
That said personally I think thinkbtge age of majority in general should be pushed back to 21. If that means no handgun sales then also no voting and no military service. I belive that at 18 a human is still a child and should be treated still as a minor.
I agree, people mature at different rates. But any system set in place is going to be arbitrary.I believe "years since you were born" is about as accurate a measure of maturity as shoe size.
Maybe we should make people legally a minor until they graduate high school. And then restore the old school requirements to do so.
Want to remain a child into your '40s, we'll accommodate.
I'm not sure school graduation is the best answer, but it should *certainly* be something better than "managed not to die for 18 years".
Or, more likely, a staged system, but similarly based on milestones not years.
I kinda like the Heinlein approach TBH. "Service guarantees citizenship".I agree, people mature at different rates. But any system set in place is going to be arbitrary.
Maybe people should remain legal minors until they have successfully held a job in tge private sector for a period of time. Frankly I don't think accedemics or bureaucrats should be able to vote either.
