Smart legal play TBH. They're basically doing the same thing as the Texas law where citizens can sue.... for example an uber driver that takes someone to an abortion clinic. They're structuring it under the same legal logic. Not saying I agree with it, but it is a smart legal tactic.

The big difference is that gun ownership is explicitly enumerated as a civil right under the Constitution, where abortion is not and may soon lose the Supreme Court's blanket protection.

Really shows these people's disgusting mindset though. "That anti-abortion law is an intolerable violation of women's civil rights... *whisper* hey guys, do ya think we can do the same thing to gun owners? That'll really show 'em!"

To be honest, I'm pretty ambivalent towards abortion, but I do think the Texas law is a ridiculous way to do it. If the Texas government thinks that a doctor performing abortions past 6 weeks harms the public interest and violates an individual's right to life, then they need the balls to bring criminal charges against them instead of putting the onus on unrelated private citizens (who are pretty much all going to be activists) to enforce the law for them through civil litigation. Activists are the absolute worst people to empower with the ability to bring charges. It's a terrible precedent, as we see now, and hope that this model of outlawing an activity gets shut down hard.

And in the end, us peons get hurt in the back and forth game between left and right.

There needs to be legal recourse to go after politicians and jail them when their unconstitutional bullshit gets overturned and invalidated. They currently don’t care to throw out whatever because by the time SCOTUS invalidates it, it will have been law for decades. Then they just walk away and say “oh well”.

But if they could face jail time for making such a law, then and only then would they have second thoughts in the first place.

I’d personally love to see someone sue over damages for the bail reform law. Plenty of problems have arisen from it.
