TONE DEAF: Oscar Buzz For Movie About Romance Between 25-Year-Old Man And 17-Year-Old Boy
Not in the least. In fact, just one year after Tinseltown awarded Best Picture to a movie featuring two male teens giving each other handjobs on a Miami beach, the industry seems intent on pumping the creep factor up to 11. Hardly a cautionary tale, "Call Me By Your Name" is a romance of depraved proportions.

The criteria for someone to be considered a pedophile is someone who is sexually attracted to someone under the age of 13 (generally speaking before they hit puberty). Puberty is pretty much slowing down by the time 17 comes around. And yes, different states have different laws concerning age of consent but 17 and 25 isn't really that big of a deal (only 8 years). If it was a 35 year old and a 27 year old heterosexual couple no one would bat an eye. What makes it "weird" is that it's a homosexual couple.

As I said in my post above I'm not into gay stuff. I imagine most mainstream normal folks aren't either. I also recognize that not every homosexual person is a raving lunatic liberal and many are actually on our side (they don't advertise for fear of being called traitors the same way that many conservative blacks don't advertise that fact as well).

What it comes down to is this: What two consenting adults do in their bedroom is no one's damn business. And it's definitely not the government's business. Knowing nothing about the plot of this movie I can't say whether it represents "good" values or not but we have freedom of speech and they should be able to make any movie they damn well please.

I for one won't be buying a ticket to see it and I suspect only a few art house movie goers will actually take the time to go sit through this one. Perhaps it's art, more likely it's trash. Sure, I wish Hollywood made great movies like they did years ago (Casablanca, Ben-Hur, Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather, Indiana Jones, Braveheart, etc.) but no one is forcing me to watch the trash that is out there today. My hard earned money will be spent elsewhere. If enough people started doing that then maybe we'd see a change, but again, no one should be forced to watch or not watch something.

not if the guy is over a certain age .. some where in the low 20's .. .. you have to look at all of NY silly laws dealing with sex to find out . if a guy is over a certain age the girl has to be 18 .. there are ranges of age in NY laws ..

That means that if a 17 year old has sex with a 18 year old, there is one punishment, but if a 46 year old does the same thing, there is another.

technically in this movie, this is considered rape, some of their consent is 18.
