That and the fact that the 10mm had to be downloaded weaker so that it didn't penetrate more than the 18 inch limit they set.
Many of these opinions are from guys who have NEVER used a firearm in a real, shoot-out situation. Paper, gel and other types of non human targets.

I don't think those that have fired at live targets are experts either. They fire and hit their target, it bleeds and or dies shortly after if vitals are hit.
Cops and soldiers do the most live shooting and are the most ignorant as far as ballistics goes.

Absolutely! 100% agree. I take a bit of issue with all these Youtube experts who think because they have a camera and some sort of target it makes them a pro. This is a debate that will never be agreed upon nor will it ever end.
My point to my last statement was simple; I hear and see all the time that, for example, the 9mm won't do this and it won't do that. I know for a fact that a 9mm will do exactly what it is made to do. Will a man die better, faster and quicker with a .40? I don't know, all I know is the 9mm does what is meant to do.

What I know is that shot placement is much much more important than caliber.
Nobody since WWII has been willing and able to do scientific lethality experiments on live humans (thank god).
The data gathered from all the real world use can be crunched and impressive statistics can be generated, but I am not all that confident that the conclusions reached can be all that reliable given all the variables that can't be controlled for.
As for the "real world" personal experience of cops and military, the plural of anecdote is not data. "I had to shoot a guy once w/ a 9mm and it worked/didn't work" is just proof it is capable of being lethal, There are plenty of people with the same experience w/ .22lr, and plenty of people who have survived 12ga slugs.

Aside from a couple of MPs in Bosnia I don't know of anyone volunteering to be shot with a 9mm let alone any other cartridge.

I think the caliber wars are over, any of the big three will work adequately so it's a matter of what you shoot best and how many you want to bring along. Me I think 15/17 rounds of 9mm JHPS will do nicely. It is cold weather now so the PPQ is what comes along with me. Still need a holster that doesn't print like the Desantis does though, but it works under the Carhart coat.

A NYC Cop took down a Polar Bear with a SWC .38 Special years ago too in the Bronx Zoo. It's all about shot placement.
