Trump in talks with key senators on gun control legislation

President Donald Trump has been in talks with key members of the Senate on potential gun control legislation in the wake of mass shootings that left more than 30 dead earlier this month.

Among the senators with whom Trump has been discussing a proposed bill, according to a senior administration official, are Chris Murphy, D-Conn., one of the Senate’s leading gun control advocates, along with Pat Toomey, R-Pa., and Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., two authors of a 2013 background checks bill that failed to pass in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

White House and Senate aides have also been meeting to discuss the issue, marking the most substantive talks the Trump administration has had to date on gun control policy. The meetings were first reported by the New York Times.

Trump said last week that he had “tremendous support” for possible new measures to tighten background checks on gun buyers, claiming that even Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., a traditional opponent of such laws, was backing the effort.

Dems had a super majority from 2009 - 2011 and didnt do shit because they wanted to cram thru Obamacare and knew gun control was a loser.

Now you have a narcissist with a fragile ego who's basically "malleable" on principles if it means a good outcome and accolades for him personally (how fake they may be be damned) sitting down with three of the biggest gun grabbers on capital hill knowing that more than 50% of America would prefer he not be president, going into an election year- and he's already telegraphed an openness to gun control on many levels and of many types.

I am curious to know how the Trunp fans will spin it if we get a repeat of the AWB out of this. I could easily see it happening.

They tried but the republican Congress didn’t let them. Whether that was for political reasons (You say yes and I say no) or because they truly didn’t want gun control remains to be seen. But they did try. Bills were proposed and died in Congress.

With the media reporting shootings almost daily, public pressure has never been higher. If some kind of control measures don't come out of this, they never will until Democrats have congress and the presidency. I wonder if the supreme court will hear cases related and cave to public pressure.
