Trying to get NY pistol permit reinstated

Hi everyone. Over a year ago I had my ny pistol permit automatically suspended when I was arrested. It was my first offense and the charges were dropped to disorderly conduct. I am about to try to have my permit reinstated and my pistols returned to me and was wondering if anyone has been through this process before specifically in NY and if in Nassau County that would be even better. I am wondering what to expect and and tips you may have. Thanks

A close friend (co worker) got arrested in Jan of 2019 for assault. It was really bogus as he defended himself against an attacker, but when the attacker took lumps and he didnt the bruised ego led him to call the cops and press charges. But i digress, so his ny state permit was suspended and he had to turn in any handguns he owned. He gave them to an ffl rather than the county. He was given a letter by a county judge that he had to appear to determine if his permit would be reinstated.

After the court adjourned the case several times he finally met with the judge in February of this year, even though the original case was closed by Oct of 2019. He presented the facts along with the court disposition ( and in this situation the charges were dropped). About a month later he got a letter from the county court stating that his permit would be reinstated after 6 more months. All together thats over 1.5 years without his property just for being arrested, not even being found guilty of a crime.

My suggestion to you is to call the Nassau County pistol permit Bureau and ask them if they know when you will have a hearing to review the status of your pistol permit.
