pretty good video on the topic .. since we have to do a NIC for our rights .. everyone else should too for voting ... last i knew it was like 20 - 25 bucks for a photo ID card .. same for renewing your drivers ID ..

Almost everyone has an ID. Even bums and miscreants have ID's to buy liquor and cigarettes. The only ones that do not have ID's are those that do not want one.

I agree. Voter ID is a must. It's insane. Look up the laws some states you don't even have to prove your a citizen.

This is the 21st century, if you want to make it fair, and secure, do away with the paper voter registration.
Go w/ fingerprint scanners. When you register to vote, you scan in and have your picture taken. When you actually show up to vote, scan in again and the election official can see if you look like the stored picture. If someone does manage to hack the system, the best they could do would be to register a bunch of people who shouldn't be, or unregister real ones.
Real voters who are denied will know it and that hacking would be discovered on election night. Let someone who claims to have been a victim cast a provisional ballot that will be stored and counted with the absentees if they prove it.
Fake voters would still need a person w/ a fingerprint to show up to vote, so you could stop most of that shenanigans too. If they register one person at multiple polling places it would be easy to catch in in an audit.

If the gvt doesn't just "trust" that you are as old as you say you are, and you are who you claim to be when you, buy tobacco, porn, alcohol, collect social benefits, buy guns and they make you prove who you are and voting should be the same. If needed the gvt. Should provide a free ID to anyone who requires one.

The same progressives that complain over voter ID laws who say we want to infringe their rights and make it a burden, have no problem infringing on the 2a and the hundreds of dollars, hours of time spent and months to years of waiting to be able to own a pistol.

How do we go about IDing people who put in absentee ballots? I'd wager that there is FAR more fraud with absentee ballots than in person voting. ID laws won't affect that fraud at all.

I would say your finger print is on your id and on file so name , Id number .. and a fax of your ID would cover that ,. or just use some Scotch tape and gum ..
Get the ballot signed off by a notary?

There is NO way fingerprints would be reliable. I worked at a place that implemented them as a way to punch in and out of jobs to keep track of time. The scanners were horrible at reading them. Cuts, calluses, dirt, and plenty of other things cause issues. Tons of people won't be able to get a good fingerprint on the paper. And, when they screw it up, do they get another ballot? When I had my pistol permit prints done, it took the officer 3 tries to get a good set of prints. Fingerprints won't be reliable.

This is true .. didnt dawn on till after i posted .. but keep them in the mix anyways .. we get hosed on 2A .. let the rest suffer too LOL ..
That's probably the easiest solution, but that will definitely stop a good chunk of people who are home bound (mainly senior citizens).

make the homes on wheels get notary certified or any other helpers of the home bound .. i have one next door that is and had one across the street that had a nurse helper come every other day .. getting notary cert cant't be that hard ..

I think voter ID laws are really a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound. I'd rather fix our illegal immigration problem so that we don't have to worry about presenting ID to vote. Just like I think we need to fix the criminal justice system so that bad guys are behind bars and good people don't have to deal with absurd background checks to buy a gun.
Now I get that may sound a bit idealistic as it's not going to be possible to stop every single illegal immigrant, just like it's not possible or reasonable to expect that every violent criminal will be locked up and never get his hands on a gun( not that I agree with it, but I do understand their reasoning.). This is why we have the background check system in place for purchasing guns. So I'm not 100% against voter ID laws, but I would personally need to put a lot more thought into the topic. I think perhaps there is a better way to deal with this which certainly involves fixing our legal immigration system, and adding another layer of protection to somehow ensure only legal citizens are voting.
