This should be the case in general. When someone makes a claim they cannot support, it's slander or libel. If she wants to privately claim, or a limited capacity, that her claims are true -- fine. But by doing it on a national stage, without merit, is clearly meant to slander. She should be charged as such.

We have innocent men out there whose lives are getting ruined by this crap. Whether it be Anita Hill, Tawana Brawley, or this likely bullshit story from Ford. It's all in the same vein of claims which immediately destroy lives, which are dis-proven far too late after the damage has been done.

Yup. No Statute of Limitations on sexual assault in Maryland. At any time they could file charges but don't because they know the whole damn thing is horseshit and being deployed strictly for political purposes.

Even though the statute of limitations is unlimited in time for sexual assault, it still requires evidence to prove it happened beyond a reasonable doubt. Otherwise DAs would take any case on word of mouth.

So unlimited time to file is still bullshit. It just means the shitshow can start any time.

The thing is it's next to impossible to prove a negative 37 years after the fact. Ford may well believe he really did it to her at this point. Either way, unless she comes out and admits she made it up to smear him it would be next to impossible to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she is knowingly lying.

This is why we have (or used to have) statutes of limitations. Because nothing good can possibly come of bringing up allegations eons after the fact when all evidence either way is long gone and memory is unreliable. (100% sure my ass)

And that's why the D's broken record of why he didn't ask for an FBI investigation to "clear his name" because supposedly that's what they would want to do if they were innocent, is a red herring. The FBI can never clear his name. If his protestations of innocence, contemporaneous evidence, total lack of corroboration and in fact refutation hasn't cleared his name, nothing the FBI can possibly do will clear his name. And when it doesn't, they'll come back and damn him with an FBI investigation that only told us what we already know.

I can claim anyone who I had contact with 30 years ago did almost anything to me, if I just make it up and say I "can't remember" when or where it happened. How the FUCK do you prove you didn't do something to someone you met 30+ years ago but it could have been anywhere anytime?
