Seriously, i cant freaking stand it. Every news outlet online, paper, tv is covering "assault weapons" ban. Its soooooo damn draining.

The ridiculousness of it gives me a headache. It's like banning forks to fight obesity. Why dont they get it? Oh yeah, because they are wired differently then conservative-minded people. They are driven by emotion and not logic. It really is the only explanation because any logical person can understand that simple reasoning yet they cannot grasp it.

I'm drafting an email to send to my school board regarding beefing up security systems, providing full-time armed security, and allowing teachers to carry and get training if they so choose.

I encourage every member of this forum to reach out and contact their school board with the same requests regardless if you have kids in school or not. The antis are exerting tremendous pressure and if we are silent then we are only hurting ourselves and our cause.

I will post up the letter when I'm finished writing it later today and I urge you to copy it and send it. We must take action to counter there actions.

Open air concert venues are tough but churches are taking action on their own. A company in my area, Defensor inc. Has classes specifically tailored for churches.

I'm a parent of three children in the Somers Central School District and I am writing to you to urge you to improve the security and safety for our children in school. I will start by saying that I think we already have some good measures in place such as buzzing in to gain School access and frequently seeing a County police officer in front of the schools.

The recent tragedy in Florida is prompting many people to call for ineffective measures such as banning weapons. Common sense tells you that if you ban one type weapon an evil person will find another one to carry out there acts of violence.

However, there are effective ways to protect our children; I am proposing them to you in this email, and I would like to see their implementation.

1. Full time, armed security during school hours and especially during drills when children are outside of the school.

2. Bulletproof doors and windows. Regular school doors can have ballistic cores so that they look like as a standard door while offering a bullet proof rating. And classroom door windows should also be bulletproof.

3. The school district should have a security assessment made for weak points in the schools where someone who does not belong on the property could easily gain access.

4. Allow teachers who are legally able, and willing, to carry concealed weapons for self defense. They should also seek professional firearms training. In our area, we have several highly accredited training companies that would gladly step up to fulfill this need.

As a resident of our town, home owner, tax payer, PARENT, law abiding citizen, and a certified Firearms instructor myself, I can gladly help the school district by directing you to companies and people that can aid in meeting these needs to protect our children.

I look forward to hearing from you on this very important matter.

Keep dreaming. As I mentioned in another post I briefly worked for a school as a security guard a long time ago (unarmed by the way and it was at night so a little different than the day shift when the building was full of students but I can still make some broad generalizations).

The one thing I learned is that people 1) hate being told what to do, and 2) hate even more being told what not to do. You can have as many procedures in place as you want but all it takes is one parent with a bug up his ass to file a lawsuit and it all goes away. Bulletproof glass and doors are a great idea but you'll get a tired taxpayer who says we don't need it for x, y and z reasons so it never gets done. Teachers carrying guns...lol...forget about it. You can't have my angel in that close proximity to a gun! What happens if it goes off on its own! And this was a small, upstate, rural school and those were the comments we always got.

To be clear, I agree 100% with everything you proposed. But this is not the mindset of the average parent let alone the average school board member. I hate to say it but passing feel-good legislation is easier than doing something real and proactive. People are sheep who refuse to think critically and most of them have bought into the anti-gun BS because some politician or pseudo celebrity says something.

After years of trying to have civil, rational discussions with people I'm tired of hitting my head against the wall.

As a child of boomer parents it seems many people of that generation like to do the feel good solution rather than the one that actually solves the problem. I've seen it for 27 years with my folks and how they've dealt with issues in our family.

I'm tired too, but it doesn't mean I'm going to roll over and give up.

Many colleges across the country are starting to adopt campus carry, so we need to keep the pressure on to push for real , meaningful, practical efforts that will actually do something.

If we let them control the narrative they will keep chipping away at the Second Amendment when anyone with half a brain knows that is ineffective. You want to do something real, you need to do what the vast majority of logical Americans are suggesting ( hint: same thing I'm saying here).

All for these solutions but damn the school taxes here in my county is $10,000 more then the property tax. Love the idea but it needs to be aimed at the law makers. They are the ones allowing this to happen. We need to address the lack of ability to legally protect our self and children in gun free killing zones. These Fucks sit on the thrones with all the money and all the protection. The government has already made it clear there is no commitment to protect anyone. But they sure fuckin make sure them and there families are prorected.

It is a good start. I am a realist in life. None of this is going to happen. Tax payers will not be willing to spend the extra money. Shit, you ever go to these School Board meetings? The majority of time all people talk about is lowering the amount of money paid in School Taxes.

I really like the idea of Armed teachers. My son has a few very Pro-gun teachers that I know would be willing to carry to attempt to protect the kids. All of the schools in my district have buzzer door entry's, seems like it keeps the bad at bay.

When I was an MP, one of our duties was to patrol the school grounds to include walking the hallways of the schools in our patrol areas. We had patrols at the beginning of school, end of the day, all evening events and a few times throughout the day, we would do interior walking patrols. I have never heard of a shooting in a school on a Military base. Huh?

I know many cops that in their off time would be more than willing to patrol the schools. Erase some of the fluff from the school budget and we could afford to have security.

I think I may draft a small letter myself.

Worried about funding? My local district has half a dozen "assistant superintendents" who each make around $120,000 a year. I'm pretty sure most of them do absolutely nothing all day. Get rid of them and we'll have plenty of money to implement Celt's recommendations. I bet other districts have similar situations.
