West Virginia carry

Wondering what folks would do here. WV seems to be permitless carry according to AG documents on their website. State police website contradicts this. Talked to a supervisor at WVSP who was very clear they do not recognize NY permit so concealed carry was not allowed. Traveling there soon and trying to figure out if i can carry.

This may be a dumb question with government involved but is it realistic that the SP are 4 years behind the times since WV instituted permitless carry? What could I be missing here? This is from AG site:

Q: Is a license required to carry a concealed handgun in West Virginia?
A: No, CHLs are optional, so long as the person is at least 21 years of age or older, is not prohibited from possessing a firearm, and is a United States citizen or legal resident thereof. Persons between18 and21 years of age must obtain a provisional CHL to lawfully carry a concealed handgun without some other lawful authorization.

A NY resident can carry openly or concealed, with or without a permit in WV.

We go down every year for the Hatfield-Mccoy trails and whoever I talked to at the SP office several years ago advised me NOT to come without a firearm. Lots of sketchy characters in Appalachia.

Just heard back from an extremely nice guy in AG office, name of Tyler. Yes, we are good to go as stated above. Did not expect to be able to talk to anyone in AG office at all, what a pleasant surprise! I am too jaded here in NY.

He seemed frustrated with the SP and their answers. Hope I did not open a can of worms.

Will print out the laws to have in my vehicle and carry (concealed) on.

I am looking at a guided tour on these trails. Not a huge fan of ATVs zipping around the neighborhood, but it is nice they have a great trail system down there for ATVs to use.

Do you own an ATV? If not there are plenty of rentals and tour guides.

Yes, guided tour including renting machines

I think they(WV) use ATV's because they don't have cars, and are easier to steal.
