Westchester/safe storage inspection

I have (annoyingly) been flagged for safe storage inspection. Irony is the amendment that triggered this was to remove guns from my license, not add them.

What should I expect? Will the dogs get shot, or raped, or raped and then shot, or raped shot and then raped again?

Please post up about the process and how it went after it unfolds unless you get the "treatment" and not the dog....

I've done this 3 times.
A detective will come to your home.
They'll ask you a bunch of questions on a survey form (how many hours a day is the house unoccupied, how many entrances on main level, do you have an alarm system)
They'll ask you to show them the safe.
They will not ask you to open the safe.
When I went to pull on the safe to show that it was bolted down, the detective said, "Don't open it. Don't open it. You aren't required to open it."

Total time for the visit: Less than 10 minutes.

Westchester is so crazy with their inspections that after I had an inspection, my wife filled out an amendment to add my additional pistols to her permit. Well...Westchester requested a "site inspection" since she now exceeded some arbitrary number of pistols. She spoke to the site visit detective and let him know that he was out our home a month ago. He sent in paperwork that explained that another visit wasn't required and her amendment was processed.

So riddle me this - are you required to secure your handguns in a safe if you are licensed in Westchester or is it that they need to be stored safely which could mean that you have gun locks on them?

Is it conceivable that the 'investigating' trooper has more 2A sentiments than the county directives force him to execute? He sees the safe for his commander and his job security, but doesn't pry too deeply. Maybe a good guy that needs to feed his family, pay a mortgage, but won't be more of a prick than he needs to be?

A buddy of mine who lives in Westchester had a visit after obtaining his 12th pistol. Nothing before that. When I lived in Westchester in the early 80's, the local PD detective would come for an inspection after 4 guns on your permit. Back then, you went through your local PD for the permit and they just forwarded the paperwork to the county.

Where in the Penal Law of the State of NY is it that requires a Safe for storage of firearms? Certainly another unconstitutional infringement and encumbrance placed upon citizens of this State exercising their 2nd Amendment Rights!

Pretty sure the Scalia decision noted rendering firearms useless defeated the intent of the 2nd or defense within ones home. Just lol... Sorry that you have to deal with that bullshit!

I both hate this and agree with this. I hate NY gun laws. But I have a pretty decent job making good money, could make more if I wanted to live at work

Can' afford to just pick up and move out of New York, with that being said, the gf and myself are looking to hop the boarder to PA (especially since it's only going to add like 15min drive to work and chemung will still give me my unrestricted new york license)

But until that time I have to either not be into guns at all or deal with new york shit and try when and how I can to improve the shit

One thing that Bloombucks said that was truth, when there was controversy over so called pandering to the rich and well to do in NYC, is that he publicly announced correctly that the "Rich" are mobile and can move anywhere, whenever, however they want. For the major populace (90%+), that's not true. Us surf's, are anchored to our station in life, like it or not.

So it is a choice, but not much of one... So I agree, and disagree all the same. Moving for most is a major undertaking and an expense. It's not something done for convenience as the "Rich" do... Jobs, family, community, all create chains (links) that aren't easily broken. And to make it all worse is dealing with the State itself, is that differing counties have their own encumbrances placed upon its residents, something I have no idea, how it survives legal scrutiny!

Complaining about it doesn’t do anything. We are all living in New York we are all subject to the bullshit so whining about it doesn’t do anything for anyone.

I don’t like it but these are my choices, so I live with it.

You could move from Westchester County to Putnam County relatively easily if it bothered you that much.

I realize moving out of New York state would be a little bit more difficult, but moving 15 min away is an inconvenience at best.

@Bullet Guy and the plans to move that 15 min are just that mine and the GF future plans, once it' time to buy a house (hopefully we are looking at a 3 year plan to make that happen) then that is exactly what we will do. She will only have a 15-20 min commute to work and I already drive an hour so an extra 15 isn't shit
