What Did You Do To Your Shotgun Today?

Best part of shotguns is how plain or tactical you can make them.

I know lots here recently add stuff to shotguns. I personally don't do a whole lot. But what did you do to your shotgun today? And what shotgun do you have?

My main shotgun is the 590 Mariner

I have 3, VERY soon 4.

I have a NEF Pardner Pump, a Mossberg 535 Camo, and a Mossberg 590 PGO American Cruiser (at the bedside, next to the Glock 20C).

Today I made sure they didn't run away and kill someone.

My next shotgun purchase is going to be a Benelli. Just so I finally have "A shotgun." The NEF is too FUDD, the 535 is way too turkey FUDD, and the 590 is a PGO.

I just want "a shotgun" now.

Not much to complain about on the 535, other than the fact the front fiber optic bead flew off many years ago. Well after I upgraded to TruGlo turkey sites.

I liked the camo at the time, and if I was a hunter I still would...let's be honest, It's a pretty cool Mossy Oak Break Up scheme on the entire gun, but that's just not me. I don't hunt. No interest.

As of now, for clays I use the NEF...and do pretty darn well, for general purpose (blast this object out of a tree, kill this skunk, destroy this X) I use the 535, and for HD I use the 590.

I will tell you one thing about the PGO guns though. People badmouth them too much. (You couldn't hit the broadside of a...blah blah blah) You often see videos online of IDIOTS giving their girlfriend or a new shooter a PGO and a slug and having a bit of a laugh at the recoil hitting them in the face. I can easily shoot my PGO with full power loads at eye level with no problems. Why? I'd shot thousands of shotgun rounds before it and actually respect it. Same with the 500S&W.



I do want me a Shockwave though.

Ive put hogue pistol grips on past shotguns. Made a world of difference.

I like camo on guns. Im not a huge hunter myself, but its aesthetically pleasing.

I have a few NEF single shots. Nice compact packages. Never shot the pump versions.

As for those videos...they won't be dating long

Especially not with the 500 ones where the GF blows her head off with the second shot due to recoil.

I've been making a list of parts i want to get for my KSG. I do have an 887 that I want to hydro dip but I don't shoot it enough to put it that far up on the list. Hoping to pick up an 870 to magpul soon

I have a sling on my 870 police and it has magpul furniture. My other shotguns don't have slings.

I do want me a Shockwave though.

I have a pgo 870 20ga. It's easy to put all the buck shot on the target across the room from the hip or at eye level. I always read they were worthless. That is not true for me but it's still more of a range toy.

I trimmed the barrel on mine.

It had a 28" ribbed on it. I cut it down to 19.5" ish . Once I learned how to measure it corectly, I cut off 1/4" to be flush with the end of a rib post.
I chamfered the crown and will reinstall the front bead.

I've come to appreciate ghost ring sights although I still prefer a step rib on a shotgun. I don't want my shotgun load to spread much, I rather think of it as a short range rifle and any spread is just helpful. If I shoot clays I want to hit the center of the bird and smoke it, winging it sucks.

I've done (or had done) a fair amount of work to this 18.5" Beretta 1301 semi-auto gas gun... opened up loading port, polished throat and bolt, smoothed the shell catch and release, changed the shell release, modified it to ghost load, adjusted the stock to fit, extended tube, added a light and QDs, threaded for Rem-chokes. Runs like a top. Prior I had a Benelli M2 semi-auto inertia-driven gun with a longer barrel and tube set up for 3-gun, full Taran Tactical mods. The Benelli, after modifications, is a really great, solid gun that in theory you'll never have to clean until plastic gums up the barrel after 20,000 rounds or so. The Beretta theoretically needs cleaning every 1000 rounds because of the gas system but the benefit is an even softer recoil than the Benelli. Also the Beretta shoots slugs straight to POA out of the box, the Benelli needs an adjustment (wack against a tree trunk) to shoot slugs straight. Truth is that Beretta owns Benelli and Stoeger and their guns are more alike than different. And the Beretta 1301 isn't a whole lot different than the A400 hunting series, just details.

I'm not a hunter and not really a 3-gunner but I like this carbine length shotgun that can shoot 7 rounds in two seconds and be fully reloaded in 12 (with a shell caddy). It's simply fun to blast shit.

I have a traditional break barrel clays gun (with a rib and bead) too but guess which one I'd defend myself with?

Prior to all this I did several Remington 870s. A pistol grip, a pretty Wingmaster, an 80s Vang Comp style Police gun, a full Magpul that I sold here. Put better parts in them, did everything right. But once I started shooting semi-autos I kept short stroking them and they just felt slow and heavy. I like the 870 platform and know it pretty well but I think the modern ones are cheap ass pieces of shit, if you must get one find a used Police or Wingmaster from the mid to late 80s with the flex cut on the shell lifter. Otherwise the Chinese clones for $200 are probably better than a new Remington.

The Mossberg has the safety in the right place for most people, I wish everybody put them there. But that's the only thing I see appealing about them.

No offense to anyone, they will all run and blast stuff and save your life.

If you only own ONE shotgun then I think a 26" Benelli M2 Field (or a similar Beretta/Stoeger) with a little TLC on the shell release and catch will do it all - defense, clays, hunting.

A shotgun is an inside the house gun to me. I have a few and they don't get used much, but they are always ready.

Same for me. I do shoot it once in awhile to test function but usually stays in my closet or by my bed.

Mossberg 590A1 is about a tactical as it gets. plain bead sight.
