Rcbs rock chucker kit. Ive heard good things about the press itself so im pretty confident about that. My question is apart from dies and a way to clean my brass, other than reloading components what would i need to begin reloading.

Depending on the dies you buy you will also need she'll holders. If you ever want to upgrade the press let me know. I made the jump last year and it made my pistol loading so much faster it's unbelievable.

I recommend, for starting out with bottle neck rifle, using the Lee Case Trimming System. You buy a cutter (get the one with the wooden ball handle, trust me) and lock stud, and all you need is a power drill. Then you just buy a case length gauge for each caliber. Extremely cheap and simple.

For books, for me, the Lyman 49th is the best, the Lee has the most loadings, and the Hornady is the absolute best if you use Hornady bullets (I got 500 free too, but mine were Hornady. 500 free 150Gr. Interlock 30 caliber bullets was a nice deal. Plus 100 for each Hornady die set.) . Consult multiple sources.

Definitely need a case length gauge as Darth mentioned.

A case prep center is a great time saver, and makes the process easier on your fingers. I use a Lyman that I picked up cheap off Amazon.

I like the Hornady because of the sleeve that comes down for seating the bullet, as well as the headed decapping pins. (Replaceable heads, snapping one doesn't cost you the whole pin/die.) I started off with Lyman though, with no major qualms.

I have $15 calipers, and they both please me and don't. They please me as they get me in the ballpark, and that's all I really need (I don't need exact .0005 accuracy), but they also piss me off as they wander when the battery gets low and it does FAST with the cheapies. When I re-buy I'm going to spend the money on the top of the line Mitutoyo ones and be done with it.

I will second a brass prep center they are worth every penny, but aren't needed to reload. As far as which dies to buy they all work. I personally use RCBS but that because that's what I started with and never had any urge to change. Calipers are a touchy subject, some people get away with cheap ones some people require the more expensive ones. I went with a cheap dial one from harbor freight and it works for me.

--My production went way up when I purchased a digital scale.
--Larger aluminum powder funnel (non-static), good for transferring powder between powder can and powder measure and back. The little green one is for dumping into the cases.
--Primer pocket cleaner.
--A good parts box (to stay organized).
--A good reloading log, document and make lots of notes.
--Compact bench side flashlight for inspecting.
--Sorting bins; mine are from baby wipes, you can't have enough bins to organize.

OK I see it comes with a lube pad and oil but it your loading big bottle neck I highly recomend wax I like the Hornady One Shot Sizing Wax for larger bottle neck cases and IMPERIAL SIZING DIE WAX for smaller bottle neck cases and spray case lube for pistol cases. Oh an one last thing or should I say first thing get a Stuck Case Remover Kit cause when you need it you need it and it's like a slow death waiting for it when you need it.

digital powder measure ... i got tired of using the beam scale fast

on the hot girl .. its not a distraction unless your reloading naked .. I reload with a friend and his wife , they all come to my place
to reload and his wife loves to do the powder measuring .. a case where OCD works well LOL ...

case lube .. liquid lanolin and HEAT dry gas .. lots of videos on youtube on it .. DIY case lube ...

I have the same pad and lube in the rcbs kit and you need a gorilla to get the lube out of the bottle man the one i have is thick stuff .


case gauges .. i'm not sure on , i don't use , @dsdmmat , headspace i would want a go no go gauge .. my cases are factory cases
and the 30-06 sized for 270 would show the trim way to short but they work , so never seen the benefit to sink the $$ in case gauges
just use my vernier calipers
