UPS or FedEx. Usually has to be dropped directly at a depot, can't be picked up by a driver or dropped at a retail outlet.

My local FedEx will not take ammo unless you are a contracted hazmat shipper.

UPS is pretty much the standard choice. Double box it tight and tape it good. You’ll need one of these now instead of the old ORM-D stickers.

Every time I’ve received it UPS delivered it. If you’re going to a local place call since many won’t ship it and you’ll have to go to the main hub in your area.

Thanks all, I have a UPS hub not too far from me so I will bring it there.
As others said Ups dropped off at service center with small quantities label pictured above. Tip use Simple Rate will save you a ton but need to write on label that it's flat rate as their system is f'd up an weight will be off and they have no way of telling its flat rate and may send it back to you lol.

And most UPS hubs do NOT carry the "Limited Quantities" sticker! You have to download a picture of it from the web, resize it and stick it on the box yourself. I was turned away and had to download it and spend an hour re-sizing it to 4"x4" on my laptop which they said it's the standard size of that "sticker".
You definitely have to remind the UPS guy at the counter that you want the Simple/Flat Rate according to the size of your box, or they will charge you double $$. Some of them play dumb to bring in more $$ or they just forget to push the right button on their screen while they weigh or measure your package. I walked in 1 day and the same guy that charged me the flat rate (after reminding him) several times before, was telling another customer that he had never heard of it and that he now found it in his system and the cost was less, etc. I could not believe he was pretending he didn't know after I shipped 5 boxes with him and I didn't have to tell him the last 2 times that I wanted the Simple Rate. He did it on his own.

I was also told that they have a 50lb max. 1000 rounds of 45 acp weighed about 49.5lbs.

I just draw the limited quantities symbol on with a sharpie...my UPS lady said that’s fine.

Yes, but if you want the cheaper Simple (flat) Rate you better not go over 50 pounds. That is the limit for Simple Rate.
I ship ammo mostly in old Midway USA boxes which are 590 cubic inches and within the 650 cu.in. limit for "Medium" to get the UPS medium flat rate. It's good for several hundred rounds or around 18-20lbs. Last couple of shipments were under $17, but the UPS guy said $34.x (!!) for 1 of them before I could remind him that I wanted the Simple Rate. So make sure you use the proper box (the smaller the better) to get the appropriate flat rate.
The Limited Quantity sticker also helps, because they don't toss it around or play soccer with your package. They handle them better than most and the damage rate is much lower than if it didn't have that sticker on it. I usually put it on both sides so they can't miss it.
