That is in the effective range of the round or a 308 as well.
This is what they are not telling...
-they are using a hold point that have probably tested many times.
-how many rounds they spent to hone on the target.
-what is the wind, b.pressure, and other atmospherics.
-how many mosins can produce an acceptable level of consistency and how hard is to find one above average.
-even above average used in their sniper platform is below standards of comparable rifles at the time.
There is a huge number of classic firearms and rounds that can do the above and better.
The mosin is cool and rugged but not well designed nor executed and most important is not a consistent shooter even rebarreled versions with high end barrels. I guess one couls use the action, true it, find a free float stock and bed it and possibly make it much better but then one will be spending a lot and ending up with a subpar weaker action so that is why people dont do it.
A shorter mosin might be a more practical and reasonable way for an enthusiast to have a classic rifle that one can actually carry into the woods to hunt wo bumping into everything.
The speed loss is not that significant and one would be using quality ammo with proper bullets for hunting anyway.
The video is cool but it is a stunt nevertheless.
btw.. I am not a mosin hater. I just like to look at things realistically.
For my .308 long distance rounds I use 165 and 168 grain bullets. I use the 150s for blasting rounds and taking new shooters to the range. Speer and Nosler vs Winchester bulk too.
@meketrefe .. i agree with what you say .. if you know the chann that came from you would know all that most likely took place ..
but getting dialed on at 900 yrd is still impressive for a 100+ yr old gun ..
The one i got did its job .. nothing over 100 yrds here to shoot .. but was cool taking it for first year rifle was allowed here and getting a buck at 60 to 70 yrds ..
That is what it is, a nice piece of history that one should shoot and enjoy.
Also the linux guys shoud have a mosin tshirt. Chicks love those things. The enemy at the gates makes a nice subject for an ice breaker.
Lol
I love shooting my Mosins. I have a few of them and enjoy all equally.
@meketrefe, right you are. I have shot some pretty good shots. I have shot out to about 300 meters. There are times that I am dead nuts on and other times I miss by many, many feet.
Again, much enjoyment in shooting them, but for a consistent shooter, not winning any competitions.
