your comments on Low Mass AR Bolt from Anderson

you save about 1.5-1.6 oz depending on the BCG. you want opinions on low mass in general or specifically the anderson one?

@Exonautic my friend and his wife both have Anderson lowers .. so was trying to just stick with the same company .. xmas is comming

Gotcha. it's not the rf-85 stuff they have, but i don't think anyone has had any issues with them. only problem i could see is if you're going to run a lighter BCG you may want to also have an adjustable gas block, that lowered mass could be the difference between being overgassed.@Exonautic my friend and his wife both have Anderson lowers .. so was trying to just stick with the same company .. xmas is comming

You want reliability? use the standard M4 carrier and weight.
The larger the mass the more reliability you have with a wider range of loads.
In the AR you have amazing aftermarket and improvements but also a lot of snake oil.

It is great that it is a low mass m16. Most are not m16.
I may get one to run on my select fire m4. I already use an adjustable gas key. The gas is turned way down. It wont run without the suppressor.
It does not move. I think i will get this carrier, add the adjuatable key, and a light buffer and see how she handles.
That being said.....i am only doing this on my “toys”. For my competition guns i run full bcg and 3oz buffers. I can not afford any malfunctions.
FWIW most anytime i see an ar go down at 3 gun it is almost always linked to an adjustable/lightened system. Good if they always work.....one hiccup qnd you lose any or the previous 1/10 of a second you have gained.

now just supers .. no suppression FUAC land .. LOL .. running 1800 fps on the chron with the reloads we did up .. can't remember the bullet weight off hand

@Bullet Guy .. yeah .. the BCG they have now is the same , not neutered .. lol .. they thought this low mass one was cool .. hence the posting ..

i was thinking of a xmas gift for them .. a lower parts kit case a spring go hay wire or something then seen this bolt .. , tomorrow he is gettin a 6.5 creedmore so i'm getting some reloading dies lol ..

IMO the low mass carriers and other exotic measures are an answer to a problem that can be avoided.
You see, in order to make the gas system work accordingly all you need is certain amount of gas block pressure.
In order to achieve that the gas block pressure then the location and size of the port has to be calculated and done accordingly
in order to assure enough gas port pressure and bleeding. If you go too far then one might create a problem and that is why
they sell regulated systems with larger ports.
But one can go so far before timing is also an issue.
In extreme cases where there is a huge disparity between loads the best way to make something 100% reliable
is to have a two gas block system in tandem.
This means the system can maintain a uniform gas pressure no matter what loads by completely closing one block and opening
another. This is something that increases reliability big time when shooting the mildest subsonic to the hottest supersonic loads.
The manufactures do not do it because of the increased cost and complexity or because they simply do not know how to
make them but a good gunsmith will.
Think of the entire gas system as a balance where you cannot simply remove or add weight and pressure on one side or the
other when a load changes. So what we do is to create a balance that can change the length of the arms very easily.
In very few instances a light carrier group /weight makes sense if one is to increase the versatility and reliability of the gun.
