There should be an investigation on this one. I want to know "who" was getting this money and ultimately what it was used for. My guess is this is just another illegal transfer of funds to the intelligence agencies. I think if it was outright fraud even the incompetents at the social security agency would have figured it out by now. These funds were deliberately allowed to go out every month.

The system is built off COBOL and the default for no known age is roughly 150 years ago when the field is missing. So this is not surprising. It's not necessarily fraud.

I'm surprised their first thought is "fraud" vs "this is a default in the system."

There are 20.8 million people with ages between 100 and 369 that are receiving monthly checks. Even the most lazy head of social security data would have some sort of program to check on this and investigate. This tells us that there is no internal audit function at social security or (just like the treasury department) they simply never inquired into any questionable payment - perhaps because they were told not to.

If the 20.8 million "people" received an average of $1,000 a month that is $20.8 billion a month or $249 billion a year.

If this is a "default in the system" it is one that has purposely been allowed to go on for reasons that are becoming clearer every day.

I dont know shit about databases and whatever COBOL is but when I read libertysnakes explanation about how this isnt fraud, my first thought was that if a "default" is allowing this much error its gotta be set up to facilitate some kind of fraud.

Here is a distribution by age for social security where the death field is set to "FALSE" (i.e. they are still alive and eligible for benefits). Do the numbers from 100+ make any sense to anyone?

So you're purely speculating on the second statement.

The only factual info we have is this hasn't been corrected. The only info that seems out there is 0 was set to default to some date about 150 years back based on the founding of the agency in 1935 and the first eligible people being born in 1870.

Also SSA doesn't pay out once someone hits 115, so that's also a BS claim by musk. SSA - POMS: GN 02602.578 - Termination of Entitlement for Title II Beneficiaries Who are Age 115 or Older

Most people do not look past the headlines and just assume its 25 million is 25 million payments being made, so go DOGE. Considering SS has been direct deposit for the last 25-50 years, I find it improbable that many fraudulent payments were transitioned past that point.

For at least the last ten years, Social Security is automatically notified of a recipients death when the Death Certificate is issued...It was done for my Parents and Inlaws.

They know if they had similar access they would be leaking private data like tax returns on all their political enemies. They just assume that will happen here. They are running scared.
