I believe the President needs the State approval to activate the Guard. Normally it's a rubber stamp. AND that @$$hole politician in Va ignites ciblings against parents. Great idea (sarcasm)

They changed that in 2006.

Before 1986 the governor needed to activate the guard, and could even tell the president after activating them that they couldn't be deployed over seas for instance.

From 86 to 06 the governor needed to activate them, but couldn't tell the president that he couldn't deploy them where he wanted.

After 06 they became essentially another branch of the federal military reporting to the president, just one that the governor could also direct.

Keep in mind there are a number of regular US military bases right in Virginia. NOB, Little Creek, Quantico, Langley.....

A ton of former US military persons have settled throughout VA.

Not all units may follow orders. Some lieutenants , captains, and sergeants may not but some will. But you best believe some will and their 18 to 20 year old privates and specialists will.

Adhoc units from various companies can be created and hand picked to work together like they do in Grand Central Station. Ones that will follow orders.

When special TOD units like those that patrol grand central and Times Square are established, a captain is chosen and soldiers from different units are assigned to him. It wouldn’t be hard to do.

But this all far-fetched anyway. The National Guard wouldn’t be used for regular policing when no catastrophe is taking place. It wouldn’t make sense. What are they going to do, replace cops to make car stops and go house to house when everything is otherwise normal?

This would only happen if Martial Law with curfews are established and even then it’s far-fetched for them to go house to house. The only guns taken away would be those that are caught with them on the streets during such periods of Martial Law.

Agreed, but that this conversation is even occuring should be cause for alarm at how tense our country is becoming.

I think people in Virginia have their panties in a twist with speculation. The situation in Virginia will be no different than in any other ban state. Sure there may be protests but in the end people will either hide them away, modify them, or sell them and replace them with other options just like the citizens in every other ban state did.

Virginians are talking big because this is all new to them but in the end, they will be no different than any other citizen in any other of the 5 to 6 ban states.

I can't be sure if these bills will pass because of the major and unusual push for the state, but after hearing the voices of Virginians on youtube about it, it's looking like reality has set in for them now.

To your first point, I don't know. People have a limit. They might take it, take it and take it, until they don't. People do have moral thresholds and preverbial red lines. I understand the analogy of the frog in slowly warning pot, I don't think we're the frog in that scenario. I just think people's lives haven't yet been affected enough to where they make the calculated decision that it's time to take a big risk and do something. Someone here posted this video before and I think it's an appropriate point to make in. This discussion. (Whoever posted this I forgot sorry)




And on rallies- this is just my opinion but most people don't think they will really accomplish much and people are busy with work, family, obligations etc.. the right isn't much for rallies. We're busy with lives and responsibility.
