12 gauge, 1-1/8 of #8 at 1,200fps. is the quintessential Trap Load around here, it's also effective for Skeet, and down South it's about the same for Doves and Quail...7-1/2 really isn't that much different, and #9 seems to be mind over matter, again not that much different. Not real sure about Five Stand or Sporting Clays, but would be surprised if something different that the eights were called for.

I've several hundred #4's and little idea what to actually Hunt with them, as Migratory Birds require Steel/non-toxic Shot...could take Turkey's or any other large Birds with them I suppose, #4's aren't to be confused with #4 Buckshot which used to be commonly used for Waterfowl...Great for Cowboy Action or any other shooting game where you've got to smack a few plates at close range.
Down South at any Gun Shop, Feed Store, or anyplace that caters to Hunters will have Pallets of Number 8 Dove Loads...volume long ago replaced accuracy and the need to use one shell for one Bird.
