The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office (AGO), in partnership with the Massachusetts State Police (MSP) and the Salem Police Department, today announced that Patrick Gordon, 42, of Salem was arrested and arraigned following an investigation that recovered illegal firearm devices and large quantities of materials that could be used to make incendiary devices.

I don't know what to think. There has to be more to this story.

Was he spouting off on Social Media and threatening anyone?

The AR does not look like it could fire at all.

The chemicals could be anything ... I only recognize the fuse.

I don't know what this guy had in mind, but if he were planning a bombing it seems he was overthinking it.

Assuredly there is more to the story than what was released, I'll bet money that's an 80% lower that's unfinished and the tape hide the lack of holes that's part of finishing it, the upper is parts, the "tube" is just that until completed into its end use, IF it's actually (illegally) made into a suppressor.
Cannon Fuse isn't a crime anywhere, the Chemicals are doubtfully illegal or even controlled.
Lawyer up and take them to task for malicious prosecution,
BTW: Chlorine Gas, Mustard Gas, and Phosphine Gas can all be made with chemicals most of us have under our Kitchen sinks...doesn't mean we're going to.

He purchased Large Capacity Magazines and had them delivered to his mother in Bedford, NH. As long as they stay in NH, I don't think that's illegal.

Probably everything he did would be legal in NH - just an uneducated guess from a non-lawyer.

Unless, of course, he was making threats.

It's all about optics: Making them look like they're doing a spectacular job protecting us, while planting fear for power and control of the general public and the gun owner community.

Still, I'd like to know what he claims he was planning to do with that crap. Despite the fact that mayhem can result from the misuse of many common household chemicals, they have legitimate and common uses.

Many of his chemicals do not.

Given the assortment, making fireworks would certainly be a possibility.
There's no "Lower Parts Kit" to make that 80% finished any more dangerous than a fake hand grenade...
Subject matter experts should be able to destroy any sort of case against the citizen, but he'll still be out $$$ and they won't return anything as it'll mysteriously be destroyed/disappeared/lost.

Nail polish remover, acetone. After the wife used up her bottle years ago I looked on the bottle and that's is what it is; bought her a quart to do refills. Way cheaper.

We bitch when something goes down and we find out after the fact that the guy was "on the FBI radar", and then we complain when something like this (a guy with a bunch of potential IED ingredients) gets popped. Just never happy......

from the number of different chemicals looks like he was making fireworks I had a friend years ago that made fireworks he had tons of different stuff for colors and effects (and yes he was legal did
shows all over) I don't think you would not need so many different compounds for bomb making unless you wanted to add a little color to make them more spectacular.

Well, *everyone* has most of these "potential IED ingredients", or decent substitutes.
I can guarantee someone could build a decent pipe bomb from stuff you have at home right now.

So, law enforcement saying that makes him dangerous is a clown show. That's them openly admitting they have no idea how to tell the dangerous individuals from everyone else.

It's the same complaint as the "he was on the radar" thing. The reason we complain about the "on the radar" is that basically *everyone* is "on their radar", that's the joke.

If the smoke detector at your house just goes off 24/7 no matter what is happening, then it's going to be 100% effective at detecting a fire. It's also going to be 100% useless and annoying and something you would be better off just throwing in the trash. Much like the FBI's "radar".

Interpretations are not exactly legal definitions...CFR49 designations on HAZMAT could possibly be applied, but that does not cover a homeowner.
I'd like to see the definitions of what constitutes an "Incendiary Device" might be a simple "Fountain" fireworks, could be a five gallon bucket of Thermite (which is nothing more than aluminum powder and Iron oxide powder...both of which will start a fire (Incendiary) if improperly initiated.
We haven't enough information, and what the DA releases to the Press that turns it into a sensationalized news story NEVER gives all the details, and seldom the facts from the other side.
Throw some strongly worded charges at some poor schmoe and see what he'll plead to so the cops and DA look like hero's that won the safety of a neighborhood from a villain.
