All of these protests are heavily infiltrated by the FBI. They will identify the leaders, act as provocateurs and compromise the leaders in the end. This has been done many times before. You dont have a general legal right to resist violently. You do have a right to have the means to resist.
If we ever got to the point of actual violence, then you'd better be prepared to kill everyone the government sends against you, because they will surely kill you if they can.
This is what the left doesn't get. They try to play this like it's some game, they think they can dance back and forth between a protest and violent resistance. You can't. Once the violence switch is thrown, you can't go back, you need to bring as much of it as you can as fast as you can.
You don't play games with "well, they used tear gas, so we'll try to send it back with tennis rackets" and that sort of bullshit. You either peacefully protest, or you mow them all down with machineguns and IEDs if you can. There is no middle ground.
I totally agree, my only point was cautionary that once that action has been loosed it can be applied to either or both sides.
That said, the pepper balls and spray aren't doing much to dissuade the local rabble, let alone those paid to create chaos...soon they are to find out that local governments will tolerate having their cars destroyed and property stolen (Uncle Sam will grant them money for replacements and civil forfeitures can be used for new and better replacements) but the Federal Government isn't as likely to tolerate that shit, especially with Trump as POTUS.

You need to arrest, charge, and jail the violent ones. If you've still got them locked up from the last time, you don't have to worry about them coming back tomorrow.
Otherwise you just encourage the "it's all a game" mentality.
