To the OP, No permit needed to buy pistol magazines. Buying ammo can be a hassle though. Some big box type places like Walmart want to see a pistol permit in order to sell you "pistol" ammo. It's their stupid ass company policy - Not a law. Go to an LGS or other retailer for your ammo.
