Great advice. You are close to CT. Call CT state troopers and request non-res permit package.

Not sure where you live but Blue Mountain Sportsmen range is located just south of Peekskill. It’s a public range, I haven’t been there in awhile but it used to be $11 per hr for pistol range (NYS permit required). They have rifle, trap also

I was manning the Dutchess County Pistol table Sat afternoon so I didn’t walk around too much. There were lots of vendors with guns, mainly long guns, ammo at today’s high prices. I did see reloading vendors also. It was a good event, always something of interest.

Blue Mountain is closed until 23 Jan then it’s open to the public on weekends only til March (exact date is listed on their website) More info incl here Sportsman Center As others have mentioned, introduce yourself to RO Walt. He’s very knowledgeable and will give you great advice

Dutchess County should have a public shooting range (similar to Blue Mountain in Westchester but with more days and longer hours)
