Overall, this was a pretty shitty season for me. We didn't see many deer on the property, and nobody got a decent shot at a good buck. I found some nice bucks on the trail cameras, but never saw them during the season. I tagged one small buck during bow season, and couldn't get anything else...
I'm against universal background checks as well. However, I do wish that the NICS system was open for private, optional, use. If I were to ever sell a gun (I never have), I'd definitely use a system like that.
These two statements contradict each other. Either your vote matters (second paragraph), or it doesn't (first paragraph). There is no, "your vote doesn't matter, but a vote for candidate C increases the chance A will prevail." It's one or the other.
And, when you have an awesome mentor in the field, there isn't as much of a need to sit through the class.
If someone doesn't have a mentor, then taking the class can have some value.
I did get a chance to ask Morelle about universal background checks. I brought up the fact that people get delayed/denied erroneously, and they have to spend years and sometimes thousands of dollars to get their rights back. His response was basically, "We can come up with a way to fix that...
It shouldn't matter as long as they are all the same and you aren't using an odd vane (like NAP's Quickspin). "Normal" vanes or fletchings can be done either way.
I've only done it the cheap way (heat water and toss it in a cooler). It works out alright, but it's more of a Saturday or Sunday night meal since it takes a while. You're right about that.
I bought a pressure cooker yesterday. I'm interested in trying out a venison roast in it.
It's one of those things where, if you are actually hunting, nobody will say anything. What are you going to do, conceal a pistol until it's actually time to shoot? That's a little ridiculous. If you're in a tiny town getting gas in the Southern Tier during hunting season, the cops down there...
Yup, the small solar panel is fine. There is a 12v battery inside the box. It will put out up to 3.1 joule and something like 11k volts.
The battery came with the fencer unit and solar panel/controller. I'ts a Parmak solar mag 12.

I got ordained through American Marriage Ministries a couple years back. I'll be officiating my second wedding this fall. The current system we have is perfectly fine. The state should just leave things the way they are. There are plenty of non-denominational groups you can go through. The one I...
Mine had about 3 very good frames, 1 good frame, and 1 frame they were still drawing out. Yours cost more, but it sounds like it was a stronger nuc.
I kept the feeder frame in the hives, for now. The dandelions are really starting to take off, so I'm going to pull it out and replace it with...
Today, I went to my parents to start getting firewood for next winter. So, I had a chance to check up on the bees and took a few pictures.
The beehives are behind the electric fence. I need to do a little weed control and digging, but it will work for now. The fence puts out something like 11k...
They're pretty gentle. You can touch them on the comb and they just crawl away. I don't mind them crawling on my hands/arms. I don't really like them crawling on my neck/face or up my shorts though. I had hundreds of them flying around yesterday. Didn't get stung once. Puff some smoke at them...
If you can find a nuc (small hive with 5 frames, usually), it isn't too late. You could also attempt to catch a swarm, but there is no guarantee of that. I'd suggest looking around for a beekeeping store near you. They'll be able to point you in the right direction. See if there is a beekeeping...
I finished the electric fence and was able to throw the bees into a couple of hives. I'll get a couple more pictures tomorrow.
Inspecting a frame for eggs/larvae. I don't usually wear gloves or a veil. Honey bees are actually pretty docile most of the time.
Pointing out the queen. She's the...
Bumping this zombie thread.
My new bees will be here tonight. Unfortunately, I don't want to place them in the bee yard because I haven't finished setting up the electric fence. So, I'll just keep them in the temporary hive at my house until tomorrow morning when I can get out to where I keep...
Bringing up a thread that's a little old, but that guy in the very first video is an idiot. He's right in this video, but he has other ones that are pretty bad. Using an in-tree saw on the ground, not putting in a notch, etc. I would take whatever he says with a grain of salt.
I can't deal with Survival Lilly. I'm not sure why, but her videos don't entertain me at all. Maybe she's gotten better though. It's been a while since I've seen any of her videos. Dave Canterbury is great. Bushradical was on the show "Alone" with his wife Brooke. Another good youtuber, who was...
What are you looking to get out of this? I'm a pretty outdoorsy person. I couldn't imagine spending money to be taught some of the stuff I've seen from survival classes. Things like debris huts, tracking game, plant ID, finding water, and friction fires aren't hard to learn. Go out and do it or...
ahh, ok. that makes sense.
Hit me up next Spring. I want to put in some food plots (which will probably require taking down a few trees) and maybe move or put up a treestand or two. Help me out a couple days and I'll get you a few days in the woods in the Fall.
It sucks, but losing guns on consignment happens. My grandmother lost a S&W pistol after my grandfather died. Nobody in the family had a permit (I was only 16), so she put it on consignment. The store went out of business, and she had no money to show for the gun. I wish there was a way to track...
What unit do you hunt? I know they still had 8N tags as of 2 days ago. Considering that they want to gut the deer population in that unit, I seriously doubt they will run out.
Amy Coney Barrett has been on Trump's short list for SCOTUS picks. Given everything that happened with Kavanaugh, I'd be surprised if she wasn't his next pick.
Not really. Bowhunting is a lot about patterning deer and getting close to them. That becomes much harder later in the season after the rut. Ever notice how once the orange army goes into the woods on opening day of firearms season, deer patterns change dramatically? They don't do that after the...
