12,000 round "review"....Canik TP9SFx

I bought this Canik TP9SFx in 2021.
I fired a few boxes through it with no issues, then decided to keep track of the rounds. This was just done for fun.
This week I fired 150 rounds that brought the total to 12,000 rounds sinse ive kept track. There are maybe another 300-400 rounds before I started counting.
This week while firing, the gun was not ejecting properly every time. I had another recoil spring, so I put it in. Now its back to normal. I fired 130 rounds sinse the spring replacement.
Other than the worn spring, ive had absolutely zero issues with this gun through over 12,000 rounds. I know thats probably nothing special, but its the first time ive kept track of round count.
About 4,000 rounds ago I bought a very cheap, $70 red dot from Cyelee Optics. I didn't know if Id like a red dot, so I bought a cheap one before I spent several hundred on a better one.
Well, the Cyelee has also been absolutely perfect.....not a single issue.
Its got top mount battery, shake awake, 3moa......just like the big boys, but a third of the price. If I get a dot for my new CZ p07, I will most likely get a "better" dot, but who knows, im not a huge fan of the red dot to be honest.

I don't own a canik, but from all the reviews it seems like a really solid "budget off brand" choice. Who knows maybe in another 10 years of testing and reputation building they will be compared more with the big established names.

It probably doesn't mean much to some of you guys, but guys like Honest Outlaw on youtube, who has always been a glock fanboy, has said that Canik is BETTER than glock due to the trigger and ergonomics. He has reviewed many hundreds of handguns over the years. He is a very competent competitive shooter. And has fired many thousands of rounds from extremely high end firearms. Again, this probably doesn't mean much to most, but if you watch his channel, you will see he is a competent shooter and reviewer. Annnnd, he buys MOST of his guns. The ones that are sent to him he lets you know. He doesn't get many though, he is very tough to impress. Also, check out the Canik USA pistol team......they are impressive and extremely competitive with glock, Sig, S&W...
That said, I will not buy another one, this is it.
I cannot picture myself buying another striker fired handgun.
I have a handful......glock 20 & 17, Sig P320 Legion, S&W Shield, M&P 2.0 Compact 9mm and full size 10mm and this Canik.
DA/SA and revolvers from here on out.......most likely.

No doubt they are good. And I do respect a lot of what honest outlaw says. I think he's one of the few fairly honest and unbiased guntoobers.

What I meant was the striker pistol category is dominated by a few big name manufacturers (Glock, sig, SW m&p etc). Then there are the next tier of long term big name manufacturers with gun models that just couldn't make a big enough dent into the market share of the established names (Walther p99, pps and pdp, Beretta apx, FN 509, czp10 etc) all very well known long established manufacturers. Then you have the next tier which are by all accounts comparable guns but from manufacturers which just don't have as long of a brand reputation but are quickly building it (i.e. canik).

That's all I meant, I wasn't putting it down or mocking it at all.

Century Arms started importing the Canik's about 20 years ago: they were inexpensive and reliable then, and I expect they still are.
I have seen them stocked in Southern Gun Shops, but not so much in the Northeast...
I have a friend who's had one at least a decade and the only complaint he ever had was the availability of (10) round magazines...otherwise no complaints.
Kahr is another overlooked Polymer/steel/striker Pistol: We had one come through the Shop in .45acp and it had a superb trigger pull and excellent (to me) ergonomics...kind of wish I'd bought it, but being a narrow minded, miserable old bastard, it wasn't a 1911.

Its not cut......another big reason I most likely will not get an optic on it.
The only place I have experience with is Jaeger Works, they did a great job but I can probably find a less expensive option. There are a lot of machine shops locally here in WNY. I do not believe an optic cut is rocket science.
This CZ is my new carry gun. I have been firing the crap out of it and feel very confident out to 50 yards with the iron sights.

Ohhh, I didn't think you were putting them down, and don't care if you did.
Im not a fan of Canik. The only reason I bought it was because it was cheap and available at the local Runnings during a sale when the local permit clerk was at Runnings adding pistols to permits.
I had $700 in my pocket and was DETERMINED to buy a gun and take it home on the spot like a normal American.
The other options were something I already had, or glocks......lots of glocks.
There was a Beretta PX4 Storm, but it was very expensive for what it was and a 10mm M&P but I chose the Canik due to its long barrel, price and optic cut.
I went back the next week and got the M&P.
Now this Canik will sit in the safe. I did my job of finally wearing out a recoil spring.....my job is done. It is fun to fire fast though, and this Canik is extremely fast.
And its very accurate..... it honestly makes it seem you're a better shooter than you are. I tested this with several legal and licensed shooters. Almost everyone shoots this gun better than other handguns. I know it is by far my fastest, most accurate handgun. I can get through a magazine, on multiple steel targets at 10 yards very quickly. Dang it!!! Now I wanna go shoot it......

What does the chamber throat look like?

Everything looks new to me.....except the feed ramp is permanently "case hardened".
Im no pistol expert but there is no noticeable difference.

Canik really stepped their game up in the past few years. They have one of the best triggers you can get in a sub-$1000, striker-fired handgun. Their sights are very good with fiber-optic fronts and blacked-out, target rears. Ergos are generally very good. Excellent slide serrations, a nice grip shape, big and usually ambi slide releases, and good cutouts above the mag release. The only place they lose points for me on erogonics is that their grip texture is kinda crap, but that's easy to fix with grip tape, bike inner-tube segments, or stippling.

Most importantly, they're generally very reliable from what I've seen and heard. Dunno much about their long-term durability or warranty and customer support.

On top of that, their premium lines like the TTI Combat and the Rival offer tremendous value for the price.
