16 hour class & 2 hour live fire class for renewal

I received my Full Carry for Westchester County and my permit is good for up to 5 Years until Renewal. Does anyone know once it’s time to renew do I have to take the 16 hour class & 2 live fire or just pay a renewal fee? I’m thinking maybe 5 years from now the judges will have strike down on this ridiculous requirement.

First it’s three years and not 5 years per the CCIA effective 9/1/2022. Yes you will have to take the 16+2 training course as it stands right now because your county is a renewal county. I’m not Joe Biden so I can’t tell the future but it is possible that it will get changed before then.

Not sure Full Carry really means much anymore in Westchester, as places by law have to post a sign explicitly allowing it on their premise. In Westchester that is going to be very rare. I've had a FC since 1993 and never had to worry about suddenly being a convicted felon if someone were to spot the weapon and call police. I would certainly get the business from the law for exposing it, but that's about it. Now if someone is in a store that hasn't placed their sign, that becomes a major legal situation where it never was before. I'm sure we will read about some noob getting arrested for printing or exposing their firearm in Westchester, Nassau or other deep blue counties. Then when their convicted, won't have to worry about 2A anymore and their rights.

Before, a legal firearm owner had to be convicted of a felony to lose the right. Now, you can become a convicted felon and lose your right for practicing your right. Makes you wonder if that is the plan.

That training is five weekends in a row, for most. Good luck!

yea reading it & I’m still trying to figure it out cause I recently applied for target in July and my license was issued in October 26, but I was given a Full Carry guess that’s the same as conceal don’t know why they use that term or if there’s a difference between full carry & conceal carry. But on my license it says issued on 10/11/2022 & expires on 10/27 good for 5 years

Well, I wouldn't look to the 2nd circuit court for good news. lol Westchester isn't gun or hunter friendly so you will be run thru the courts if for no other reason that to make it expensive for you to defend.

I think they just have not updated the form or whatever it is. My county still doesn’t have the new forms out either. It’s been months. You can go on the NYS police recertification website and see when they say to recertify. As far as I know no one has been updated yet to reflect the 3 year timeframe, but that’s the law.
