2018-19 Trapping Discussion

I decided to dabble a little into trapping this year, so I took my trapping class.

Ordered some new traps, 18 Sleepy Creek 600's, 18 Bridger 1-1/2 special, 6 Minnesota Brand 550's and 12 CTM 126's and all the stuff I need to get started.

Got them all cleaned, lightly rusted and have a barrel simmering them with dye.

Got probably 40 foot traps and a dozen 160's boiled, dyed and waxed ready to go, really need to double up for a decent trapline. Saw a real nice Bobcat this morning headed for one of my spots probably have to cull a few coon to give him chance to ride the fleshing board. Between having a lot of traps stolen and low fur prices I stopped trapping for a long time, I'm pretty excited to get out again, still much work to do to be successful.

I haven't sorted any of my crap yet. Last few seasons shitty prices I'm not as motivated plus time is scarce right now for me. I do need to get everything cleaned up and organized so I can set eventually

If I manage to catch a Fisher it's going straight to the taxidermist.
To bad where I'm trying the season is 5 days long. I'll be putting out probably 2 dozen traps on a Thursday and have to pull them on Tuesday. It's an hour drive to get to where I can trap for them.

Yeah, just wanted to try something different this year, after that it'll be fox, coyote, coon around my area.

I also took vacation then so no work to worry about.

Now that all the deer are wounded by bowhunters and dying 1 county over, I finally got several Bobcat sets out, at least I hope it doesn't end up being a opossum, coon, skunk or red fox line. wet lands are pretty flooded here too making it tough going where I'm trapping.

j/k about the bowhunters, they all killed their deer instantly.

You mean trapping doesn't leave deer and other animals crippled and collecting SSI

Damn it now I got the bug again to break out the traps. Haven’t done it for the past 3 years due to time constraints. I think at least I will try to cull the fox population down a tad we have 2 large greys spending time around my wife’s chicken coop and I caught a nice cross fox on my trail cam I would like to get

Anyone pulling any fur? I haven't been able to lay and steel down this season but I've been watching frontier and it's making me miss skinning critters

Put a few K9 sets out but it's been so wet here they keep getting washed out, gonna wait til we get some frozen ground.

Pulled mine for deer season and my crazy work load. On the bright side I'm now in possession of the secret bait recipes of a life long trapper who owned a trapping supply business and wrote several how-to books, People all over the country would buy his baits & supplies, his legend still lives on. I might just go into the trapping bait business.
