The federal trial of a Kansas man for manufacturing and selling firearms and silencers without a federal license could very well turn out to be the pivotal case that not only challenges the constitutionality of the National Firearms Act of 1934, but also every federal firearms law ever passed in a battle that will determine whether it is the states or the federal government that has the constitutional right to pass gun laws.

Put bluntly, this could be huge.

This could strike down a federal reciprocity bill, but the logical conclusion since McDonald incorporated the 2A to the states via the 14A, would be that the states can't pass any either. It would literally be "no gun laws at all". Might be hard to find someone willing to sell the really fun stuff though, and even harder to find a range in NY that would let you fire them

That's a lot of hyperbole in that article. This issue was very hot around 2003-4, with people planning on making "intrastate" machineguns etc. Unsurprisingly the Supreme Court issued a pretty strong decision in 2005 (called Raich) that made it clear that the machinegun ban would be upheld on commerce grounds. Separately the famous Heller decision, in the notorious Section III, made it clear that machineguns were not going to be protected by the Second Amendment.

So tempest in a teapot. It would take possibly a 2 or more likely a 3 judge change at the Supreme Court to get a different result.
