With this national ex parte law you would be one hell of a lot better off with local and county judges in Dutchess (or any red upstate county) than in progressive Blue areas of Texas like around Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, etc. The blue cities in Texas have long been infected with progressive liberal mental illness that has also been spread to their suburbs by the influx of out of state snowflakes (many from California and New York) relocating to Texas for affordable housing, jobs, and lower taxes. True, but the culture is also somewhat different, even in Austin. The local liberals are even more pro-2A than on either coast -- both from my observation and from what I've been told by locals who have lived there / family down there. They might be pushing their social values, but 2A is in the blood of Texans down there.

Surprisingly, a lot of ranges are even popping up around Austin -- which, is surprising for a liberal city. And sometimes, that can be a very, very good thing...

Hey man, I was THERE when they were doing the photo shoot. The guy behind the counter commented on how he was impressed they could handle the Deagle 50 cal, saying "I thought their twiggy little arms would break off or something shooting that thing." Still, they know how to hold a gun in their hands apparently down there.

I have been in Austin and San Antonio several months a year each of the past 3 years. For being major cities in Texas, I found there are suprisingly few shooting range options and they are seem to be 30 to 40 minute or more drives. They were so packed on week ends and pricey enough I was suprised there were so few options. I was suprised to find comparitively more range options available around NY's lesser populated mid-hudson valley. I was also suprised to find that fewer women are at the Texas ranges than the Hudson Valley ranges .... but my wife loves the attention she gets in Texas (she also loves the better long gun, silencer, and mag options in Texas). I was also suprised to find carry restrictions in Texas that we do not face in NY. Any store, mall, business or owner can post a 30.06 sign to make concealed carry illegal. I was really shocked around Austin, to find aggressive NY and Ca transplated moms post themselves in front of stores, businesses, and malls posted with 30.07 signs (open carry illegal but concealed ok) to inspect for printing (which is considered open carrying) and speed dialing cops while harassing patrons till police arrive. I got through their gauntlet but they spotted a few subtlety printing carriers over several minutes. These moms are organized, have meetings, travel to like minded strategy meetings, have recruiting drives, and schedule activities. The worst thing I saw was women from what sounded like a local Moms neighborhood playgroup schedule themselves to watch shoppers conceal from their car glove boxes in the parking lot and then follow them in to a 30.07 posted grocery store to call cops claiming they are printing. I have also seen angry moms look for printing in restaurants or bars with 51% alcohol sales revenue signage. There is also very visible and well organized Texas mom population of less militant "Fuddy" activist moms in Austin and Dallas pushing locks, safe stotage, repeal open carry, ban private non-ffl sales to ensure 100% NICS, ban high capacity mags, etc. I have never seen any level of anti 2A organization anywhere else and Progressives seem to know how to leverage their voices. Although we often say the grass is greener in free states like Texas, these states still have dead patches of sodworms and lawn grubs created by anti gun liberals.

Texas would be the last place I would choose to move to as far as free states go due to that 30.06 law.

I mean even here in NY I have it better and can choose to ignore a no gun sign without going to jail if caught carrying anyway.

For me it's very different. If in the off chance I'm printing by accident and someone calls the cops, I don't go to jail. If I hurt myself requiring EMS, I don't go to jail. If I defend myself with the gun, I don't go to jail.

In Texas I would.

In NY, however, you are asked to leave with a trespass threat if you refuse versus in Texas where you are issued a misdemeanor with a minimum penalty of $200 going up to $4000 with a year in jail and losing gun rights for 5 years. Those guys I saw caught printing, after it was confirmed they had no warrants were issued misdemeanor appearance tickets and told to expect a 200 fine plus expenses if found guilty.

A deputy in Bastrop county said 30.07 / 30.06 enforcement is usually lax outside of blue counties. He said its primarily enforced if there is an owner or citizen complaint or as a piggy back charge if law enforcement thought it was appropriate. He also said, however, in areas where you would want or need to carry there seems to be more 30.06 "no carry" signs. In his county they only get 30.07 "no open carry" calls for open carry guys who are usually drunk and obnoxious. He also said that statewide most business post no open carry signs to be politically correct and immune from vocal snowflakes or to follow corporate guidelines of big chain / box stores but they are ok with concealed.

I listen to a podcast called Handgun World. The podcaster is a guy from Texas. He says that the open carry guys have made it more difficult for the ccw'ers. Since open carry was recently enacted, more signs have been popping up like crazy. Previously when open carry wasn't legal, anti gun businesses weren't thinking about guns in their businesses. It wasn't in their faces. Since open carry became legal and people started doing that in their business, the signs went up.
