Ak47 Question

So in the event of Comrad Harris winning in November ( if there is a God it will not happen) and trying for “assault weapons” bans, I am looking at a couple of rifles in the next few months

I have a couple of AR’s and lever actions, shotguns, etc, but quite fancy an AK

I like this from Buds, which is a US made Riley Defense version……

It seems to get good reviews and pretty decent quality for the price

Having never owned one before, is there anything I should consider when purchasing - make, model, accessories etc?

And to confirm, i have a permanent address and permit in FL, so no issues with the purchase and realize I can’t bring it up to my property in NY

Yugo M70 is a great rifle. If the extra pound it weighs compared to all other stamped receiver AKM rifles is not an issue, it’s built like a tank.
1.5 mm instead of 1.0 mm. Only other was the Chinese 56 and the RPKs. Heavier barrel, bulged trunnion. Of the two your looking at definitely go with the latter. It’s the real deal.
CHF barrel too. Remember also with Yugoslav AK’s the parts are a different animal than your standard AKM. I love USA made stuff. But not so much with this type rifle. Although I would trust anything made from (Arsenal, inc.) in the AK pattern.

Hypothetically,
If it were my choice, i would stick with the AR platform. During battles, you`ll be able to pick up parts you`ll need, on the run. There will be lots of them out there. There will be ammo easily sitting around for an AR out there in the battlefields to take, but not so much for a AK type rifle. Just sayin.

They did it right with the GF3 forged trunnion and bolt. I believe Riley has since also stepped up there game. As to the rifle in post #7 without a forged trunnion and bolt, no mystery how you can lengthen your head space by 2 mm to almost swallow a field gauge in 300 rounds. With this pattern rifle the trunnion and bolt ARE the head space. And of course the barrel. But the trunnion and bolt should absolutely be forged. And not necessarily the barrel.

I've been considering BCA upper not sure which one or maybe multiple pistol & rifle length I have others from them with no issues.

This price can't be beat as for magazines stick with Duramags 28rd or 20rd

Ahh AKs. I remember the days of walking into the LGS and buying a couple Romanian WASR-10s for $500 a pop. Ammo was cheap, we would go through a thousand rounds in no time. They got a rap as being cheap AKs, but they never failed me. They are going for $1,000 now. Had a Hungarian AK 47 as well. Even got into the AK 74 with a Bulgarian model because ammo was cheap and plentiful. Now you can't find it.

You could always get an SKS if your budget doesn't allow for an AK (they got expensive).

I bought a Riley Defense from someone here on the forums. I have had zero issues with it so far.

I obviously un-NYfucked it and it now lives a free life in my second home in PA. Took off the horrible Thordsen stock, put the Magpul Zhukov side-folding stock on it, Midwest Industries forend, and threaded the barrel for a VG6 AK brake.

I had two saiga's and a vepr. The quality vs other AKS, even my friends mak-90 was stark. Of course this was mostly pre-safe act.

yeah my budget is around the $1000 point so not looking at much beyond that

I too, have a Saiga AK74, and a VEPR AK47. They are both NY Communist legal - NYLAK stocks and no scary holes on the muzzle. Rock solid, the only thing that ever fails is the cheap Russian ammo, and even that extremely rarely. They do just what they're supposed to do, fire even after you drop them in a mud puddle. Probably could not find - or afford, either one at this time in the world.


The good old days in GA before I foolishly moved back "home"... I knew it was bad, just didn't realize how bad.
