Did anyone happen to catch the show last night? Well Mike and Frank were in upstate NY and came across a rifle. Mike had asked if the lady wanted to sell it and she said yes. OH OH OH, she sold a rifle without going through a dealer. Hmmmmmmm, thought that was a NO NO. For all of you who will say that the show was taped before the unsafe act, no it wasn't. By the way, the rifle was a Craig built by Springfield Armory in the 30's.

I like American Pickers but if you research it the show is completely staged and fake. Production assistants do all the research and make the finds. They meet with the prospective sellers months in advance and arrange all the deals. When Mike and Frank actually show up everything they say with the seller is scripted for dramatic purposes. For all intents and purposes the sales are already final. Hell, they don't even drive the van other than a few times just so the camera men can get the shots of them.

My bet is that the assistant came across the rifle and it's either exempt somehow (non functioning or C&R) or it went through an FFL and the NICS transfer was done ahead of time.

All "reality television" ceases to be actual reality as soon as the camera comes on. Sort of like the thing in physics about trying to observe particles changes the behavior of the particle making it impossible to observe it in a neutral state, or something to that effect.
