I was in a gun store in Connecticut over the weekend and noticed a Glock slide that had custom work done on it they had as a sample piece the guy told me that it was a guy in upstate NY that they use so just trying to track him down .

I picked it up yesterday. Looks good. They mounted the red dot and cerecoated the slide. I have to clean oil and reassemble. And then go test still.
My slide is now in his hands. We'll see how long it takes, but I'm having him mill an optic cut, and hopefully some serrations and a cerakote job on it
I know I want my slide back in a normal timeframe, and a lot of places have 3-4 week waits, plus add a week for shipping if its across the country
Some places have a lead time of a few weeks. Honestly, I’d rather go with much more reputable companies that do milling on firearms exclusively and have done it for years. Companies like Jagerwerks can give you the best work possible and they will stand by their service. Instead of just risking it on some random dude that says he could do it. Also with them being much more reputable companies, they more than likely have completed the exact same service for your firearm and optic combo, there is no learning curve for the dimensions needed to be milled, they’ve done it countless times before and know exactly what needs to be done. God forbid some issue does happen (which is less likely with someone who thousands upon thousands firearms a year for a living), the more reputable company is also more likely able to fix the issue in a timely manner than dealing with some other guy that doesn’t have as much financial help. I’d stick with what’s known to work and be happy to wait that tiny bit more time to get higher quality work.
Smaller companies don't necessarily imply they're not reputable. If you take your slide to bubba's pissin' hot reload shack for a milling, yeah you might get screwed. Its up to their risk tolerance to see what they want to support, I'm fine with going to MP Machining, I saw some work online they did and its good. Yeah, they could fuck up my slide, but I'm sure they'll replace it if they do.
I agree, I’m sure there are shops out there that are qualified to do it. If someone finds a shop that they believe have that capability, then go for it if you think that’s the way you wanna go. As for myself, I’d still stick with a more known company that’s been putting out high quality work for a long time and they’re known among the industry for doing exactly that. Hope it all works out with whoever you go with.
What cost?
~90 bucks for the optic cut, another 55 for cerakote if you have a SS slide, or I think he said free bluing for regular slides

I agree mostly. The dimensions are mainly the same. Some companies mill just slightly a smidge more material for slightly looser tolerances. Some also mill to different depths depending on which company and optic is chosen. Some will also mill your slide to the exact dimensions of your optic itself if you send your optic along with your slide. Most smaller companies don’t have the budget for a multiple axis Haas VF-4SS, let alone multiple ones.
