As an aside, one of my climbing partners in Kenya was a Jain, and a very strict one at that - he wouldn't even eat eggs (it's a part of their non-violence ethic). He used to come to all the Mountain Club functions where we were having BBQ, or roasting a pig and bring vegetarian dishes to share. Some were really good. Didn't try and impose his views, which had more history and thought behind them than today's vegans.

Interestingly, their symbol and flag contains a swastika.
