Bullet stuck backwards!

REALLY! WTF!!

A woman had loaded her magazine backwards for her Glock something. racked the slide, pulled the trigger, click. Got the bullet jammed in good. One of the other guys had bent needle nose pliers and managed to pry it out.

You guessed it, first time gun owner.

She really should start with a 22 as she couldn't hit the target at 21ft.

When the slide failed to completely close she attempted to rack the slide (tap rack and bang) and wedged it in further. So much so that the weapon was taken to a gunsmith to remove the stuck round.

Yeah, but OP stated "pulled the trigger, click" there's no way (IMO) a Glock will go into battery if the round is inserted backwards.

It is real. Maybe she didn't pull the trigger. We had a line full of people and I was behind the instructor. Regardless, she managed to load the mag backwards. I'm still baffled by it.

I talked to the RO last night.
She had loaded the mag backwards (which was not noticed). She put the mag in the gun, racked the slide at which point it would not close, so he had her rack it again and there were now 2 in the chamber. He had her drop the mag and then saw the bullet stuck in backwards.

I'm still trying to figure out how she got a bullet in backwards. I don't know if it was 1 or all.

He loaded 1 40 cal in his 45.
He did not notice the sound difference but luckily I did.
I yelled "STOP", before he pulled the trigger again.
The 40 fired but the case stove piped halfway down the barrel. It was a bitch to remove.
Ive never witnessed a stove pipe in 35 years of shooting.

I know it’s different, but I watched the cabelas pistol worker insert the magazine backwards into 3 pistols I was looking at. I walked away shaking my head. Of course they did not lock into the gun.

Many moons ago I was running a gun store/range. Sold a guy a Glock 19 and a few weeks later sold him a Glock 23. He came back to the range with both and we implored him to only load and fire one at a time to reduce the risk of mistakes. He didn't listen and somewhere loaded the G19 mag into the G23. It chambered and fired, but did not extract. The second round was able to chamber, but as it did, it pushed the expended brass down the barrel. Upon firing the second round the gun "blew up." The magazine blew out the bottom, the shooter experienced stinging "recoil" and the gun locked up, locking the slide in place. After beating the gun apart, we found a buldged barrel. The range was closed and we searched the lanes. We recovered some pretty chewed up brass and noticed the target was fairly tight with only one flier that had keyholed. He required a new barrel.

Hes been shooting as long as I have, 35 years or so and this is his first screw up.........sort of.
About 25 years ago he almost shot me with a shotgun.......but I digress......

We were shooting clays with a hand operated thrower.
He was bringing the gun up with his finger on the trigger when it went off.
I was 10 feet out of the shot line but it was too close for comfort.
The point is that the gun went off without him expecting it.
We still argue about this often.
He says "shit happens" and I say "not with guns".
Then I remind him that I have never had a negligent discharge. Thats when the argument starts.

Well I guess I did not use the correct term.
Having the case jammed down the barrel just sounded like a "stove pipe". Ive always heard and used FTE.
I just assumed stove pipe would mean something caught in the pipe.
Its quite obvious what I meant. Imagine firing a 40 S&W out of a 45 ACP gun. The case was literally lodged halfway down the pipe....or, um barrel.
Had to put a stick down barrel and pound it out.

Ive never seen it before.
With all the calibers with close in size casings you would think it happens more often.
The 40 and 45 arent even that close, but he managed to screw it up 2x.

Well pardon my ignorance and confusion but what you meant was not quite obvious, at least to me. That was because of the term you used and because what you described seems to require the shell casing to have gone against the laws of physics, at least in my layman's limited understanding of things. So, I asked my question because I was and remain quite confused. I simply don't comprehend how the 40 brass went halfway down the barrel and lodged there. I say that because the bullet would have been forced to go forward down the barrel but the shell casing did not have anything to propel it anyway but backwards or so I would think. As far as I understand, that is how blowback works - while the bullet is propelled forward - the shell casing is blown backwards - both move only because of the force of the gunpowder gasses expanding and both move in opposite directions since the gunpowder gasses are expanding in between the bullet and the casing pushing them apart. Figuring out what propelled the shell casing in the same direction as the bullet is a real mind boggler for me. Anyway, good that you caught it, lucky no one got hurt and lucky it did not screw up the pistol.

Hey Glenn, maybe I can help. This is the sequence that happens as you fire your gun. At the gun fires the bullet travels down the barrel, the gases that are created propels the slide backwards (blowback) and the extractor ( a hook of sorts) grabs the brass, pulling it out of the chamber and pivots it out of the slide (and gun) as it comes all the way back. The slide then goes forward, pushing a new cartridge back into the chamber. Now you probably already know this.

What happens when you have a smaller caliber cartridge in the gun (40 in a 45, 9 in a 40, etc.) is that during the blowback part is that the extractor can "pass over " the lip of the smaller sized brass instead of catching it. Because the difference in diameter of the case sized (tenths or hundredth of an inch) it doesn't take much for this to happen. Therefore the smaller brass doesn't get extracted out of the chamber and when the slide travels forward, the next cartridge pushes it down the barrel. The gun then is able to fire and the bullet encounters the spent brass . . . Kaboom!
It's all about the extractor not making proper contact, not the gases propelling the brass out.

Your picture of a stove pipe is correct. I don't know what the term is (nor do I think that there actually is a term) for the event that Criticalt had happen to his friend. Although FUBAR comes to mind. I hope that this helps.
