Gun ownership *is* a right, in fact it is the most strenuously enumerated right in the entire constitution. It's protection is *stronger* than any other right.

So, there are rights, lots of them, so many that the founders just said "Everything the government isn't specifically allowed to restrict is a right".
And there are enumerated rights. Rights that are so important that the founders felt they needed to be specifically listed in the bill of rights.

Depends on what you mean by "important".

The enumerated rights are obviously the ones the founders believed were the most important to protect from government infringement. Presumably this was a combination of what was most important to liberty, and what was most likely to be infringed by an authoritative government. Your oxygen example was probably left off the list because they didn't think it would be likely to be infringed, not because it isn't important to freedom.
