I just noticed the North store is open by appointment. I've been thinking about a trip there for awhile. If someone from NY purchased a rifle there can they just put in the car and come home or is it required to ship it to an FFL? Obviously the latter requires some more prior planning.

They will send it to your FFL in NY.
There website specifies that.

They used to do the check and mail directly to your door ( they acted as the FFL and did the check) but not for NY anymore. If you look at old posts or pages, it could be confusing. It is my understanding that NY, NJ, CA residents have not been able to have these direct to door shipment for several years and a NYS FFL has been required for several years. As a NY resident you can not and they will not let you leave walk out with a gun purchase.

Funny story (well not really) - I ordered my M1 Garand from the CMP just before (un)SAFE Act was enacted. However it wasn't ready to ship until after (un)SAFE Act was signed into law. I had to find a local FFL to accept shipment and pay an extra $40 or so for it. Sigh.

I usually only take it to the range for 4th of July shooting.. fun times. A couple of years ago I ran into someone at the range ALSO shooting an M1 Garand - he does CMP shooting competitions with it. (had a shooting jacket and everything)

Just going off of what I read on their website a few weeks ago. A lot has changed in 8 years. Don't have the time or desire to find the quote, but I'd bet money on it.

The law is irrelevant, their policy, based on what I read directly on their website, is to ship firearms to an FFL for NY residents.

even if you go there in person .. .. sounds like a place i wont ever buy from .. like midwayusa wont even ship a BP musket to a NY FFL

Sucks, but it'd be worth it to pick out just what you want. Maybe. I don't like how you have to join one of their approved clubs to even enter. Rubbed me the wrong way.

Yes. We called about going there in person. They said no and said it was that way years since after 2013. If anyone is told differently please post. I looked on their forum before I called, it did not look good but I wanted to make sure before we added it to a road trip.

They had membership rules for as long as I know and there was an active NY club / site for quite awhile.

Joining the GCA (Garand Collectors Assoc.) for $25 a year is a valid "club" and satisfies their needs. You also get a great magazine every few months out of it. Long time member here.

I'm all set with their prerequisites, I'm retired military and belong to a local club that is affiliated. I like the prospect of picking one off the rack myself but if I have to pay to ship it here the trip may be off consideration

They will not ship to a C&R. I do not know if they will let you use a C&R for an in person sale. I wager they will insist on a 01FFL.
