I am curious if they will do the "compensation" like what has occurred previously.

Not sure, but time will tell for sure.

I'm curious about the later Gen 3 EcoDiesel that Stellantis produced if there is any "cheating" going on with that (2020-2023). Even though they got hit up on it on the Gen 2 engine.

That is a good question. Everyone has gone up 70-100HP and 2-300 ftlbs in the last 10 years. That power is coming from somewhere. GM and Ford just know how to cheat better or keep the right people paid off .

I think Ford and others purposely underpower (under tune) their diesel engines. Like you said, every few years they bump up the HP and torque specs. It is all about having the highest number for their marketting purposes. Apparently it works. Joe the farmer choses a 6.7 Powerstroke because it outputs 500hp and 1200ft/lbs of torque. He thinks he needs that extra 200ft/lbs of torque that the Duramax doesn't provide. Of course what he fails to realize is that most of the rigs on the road with a big block straight six output less power and tow 5x the amount.

These new high pressure injected diesel engines "arent your grandfathers diesel". My 6.7 Powerstroke is rated at 400hp/800ft/lbs. I deleted the exhaust components and added a "mild tune". Basically it adjusts the injection protocol to add more fuel and produce a bit more power. The tune I added bumps it to 450hp/1000ft/lbs. Of course I have no dyno to prove that, but the (well respected) tuner has the fancy dyno graphs to prove it, for what that is worth. I get some smoke and do see a noticeable different in performance. There is a "performance tune" that in my opinion gets you into dangerous territory. Guys go around "rolling coal" and eventually something breaks.

Yes and no. In a stock class 8 truck it may only have 4-500HP but will be 1500-2000+ ftlbs of torque. Its a night and day difference when pulling to have that torque available.
Take a class 7 Freightliner box truck with a 6.7 load it to 32K and pull a hill. Take the same GVW truck but with essentially the same HP DD13 and do it again.

If it works like everything else government I know of, they get the regulators to write the regulations specifically around what will be achievable by their engines but difficult with their competitors.
