I can't help think about all the civil rights activists during the 50's and 60's who knew their civil disobedience would result in arrest, probably an ass-kicking and maybe death. And they did it anyway and accepted the risks as a way to draw attention to their cause.

When I was in high school in the late 80s, we had some kind of assembly where we were asked to stand for "The Black National Anthem" (I think) during a Black History Month presentation. I refused to stand. I was sent to the principal's office and I was asked to explain myself. I said, "I am an American. I will stand for only one national anthem while in this country. You can feel free to stand for whatever you like. That is your right." The principal said, "Fine," and sent me back to my class.

Does that same protection apply to students who did walk out, but provided a counter point? I know at my school it was clearly stated that any alternative messages/signage would not be tolerated. Double standard much?

I would feel extremely worried if they used state appointed armed guards in the schools for "protection."

Students right to protest have been clearly defined and if it was disruptive the school had a right to stop the kids. They have a right to protest but leaving the building requires permission. A legal guardian can sign out a kid.

He has now sent a president that walkouts are not only supported by the constitution, but encouraged to make important changes.
Any of you with kids in high school should encourage them to exercise their rights and make changes through walkouts, your governor supports them.

My kids and nephews aren't old enough to organize anything, but I think any of you with kids in high school should ask them what they woul like to see changed and get them to stage walkouts.
Obviously our first choice would be a walkout to protest the unsafe act, but protesting almost anything would work. The fuhrer was on the news saying any school that didn't allow walkouts was violating the students 1st amendment rights. If someone wants to hold a pro 2A walkout they have the right. If they'e not allowed to then they can file suit against the school.
Also on the topic of 1st amendment rights, how are kids being sent home or suspended for wearing an NRA or other pro 2A shirt? Next kid told to change his/her shirt should call the governor's office and say theyre being discriminated against.

This is awesome! If any students wanted to walk out and hold up signs that say "guns don't kill people, people kill people" and they were denied the right to do so, then it can be looked into!
