DC man arrested on gun charges linked with synagogue shooter online: FBI

A D.C. man possibly linked through social media site Gab to the Tree of Life synagogue shooter was arrested on firearms charges.
Clark discussed killing Jews and African-Americans on the social media site, the affidavit states. Bowers also made anti-Semitic posts and criticized Trump on Gab, a Twitter-like social networking platform that became a haven for alt-right extremists.

Clark is charged with illegal possession of high-capacity firearms magazines and unlawful guns, and he is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing Friday.

Federal agents say they obtained four boxes of gun parts from Clark and “recognized several items in the boxes as parts used to modify AR-15 assault rifles,” according to court filings.

In their court filings, federal agents said they obtained four boxes of gun parts from Clark.

“Agents recognized several items in the boxes as parts used to modify AR-15 assault rifles,” the affidavit said.

Agents said they also recovered AR-15 rifle conversion kits and four high-capacity AR-15 magazines capable of holding up to 30 rounds of ammunition, according to the affidavit.

Clark appeared in U.S. Court in D.C. on Tuesday where he was ordered held without bond. He faces two charges: one federal count of unlawful possession of firearms by a person who is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance and one District of Columbia count of possessing high-capacity magazines.

The Washington Post first reported on Clark’s arrest.

According to court documents, Clark was linked via social media to Robert Bowers, the man accused of killing 11 people inside a Pittsburgh synagogue in October, on the network Gab.

Gab has been the subject of much scrutiny since the shooting as Bowers was a frequent user of it and posted hateful messages on it.

“It is no wonder the District government covered up its special favor for NBC News and David Gregory for two years," Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said in a statement Friday. "Liberals in the District seem to think that they should be immune from the absurd and constitutionally-suspect gun laws they like and want enforced.”


William Jacobson, who runs Legal Insurrection, said in a statement the document release was a win for transparency, and that he doesn't believe what Gregory did should be a crime. On his blog, he previously wrote: "The non-prosecution of David Gregory was a testament to the double standard for justice in the District of Columbia, one for the rich and powerful, another for the rest of us."
