I'll contend that "Adulthood" doesn't really onset until at least 21, which is why that was historically the age when one was considered an "Adult" now these days there seems to be more filling that designation at a much later age, and Government has raised the age of many things that those less than 21 can do except getting fucked or joining the Military (which isn't much different)
SCOTUS ruled that refusing to sell a legal adult (18) a handgun until they were 21 was unconstitutional (still wonder how NY is going to get away with not Licensing handguns or Semi-auto Rifles to someone not over 21) perhaps that's another Lawsuit we can file.
Can't have your cake and eat it too: either set the age uniform for everything or drop it all together.

I say only people who can pass a basic civil exam should be able to vote.

The Voting Rights Act of 1965 lowered the voting age to 18, Oregon and Texas challenged it as un-Constitutional and the 26th Amendment made it official countrywide in 1971. Pretty much been downhill ever since. It should go back to 21.

At best this would be local, maybe statewide right now.

There's been a recent groundswell for folks to get more involved in local politics, especially school boards, town councils, etc. after what they've done to us the past couple years. This seems to me to be aimed at watering down those efforts.

Expect this to pick up a lot of steam in dem circles. Part of the playbook.

They must really want to accelerate the downfall.

Only taxpaying landowners, with at least a basic understanding of U.S. history and economics should be able to vote.

Anyone, other than retiree's, receiving a significant portion of their income from the government, should not vote.

It's very easy for legislators though, so they prefer it to anything that might actually measure maturity.

Imagine the shit storm if you tried to change it to something slightly better like "high school graduation" or something.

Of course, you'd have to go back to when that diploma meant something more than just attendance too.

"Self sufficiency" would be a good one too. You can drink and vote as soon as you move out of your parent's basement and support yourself. If you're living on government assistance it doesn't matter how long it's been since you got squirted out of a vagina, that's not enough.

Vote at 16 because some politicians will profess at that age there is an assumed maturity present in order to be able to make lasting decisions that will affect your life, supposedly improve it...

Yet, those same politicians will stand on their soapboxes and proclaim that until the age of 21, and some want 25, there's a lack of maturity and intelligence in order to be responsible for your own decisions, such as purchasing tobacco, alcohol, firearms, renting a car, leasing a property and a hundred other innocuous activities!

When and where were politicians given the mandate to control daily lives to every extent and to such extremes? It's all ridiculous...

Canada does a lot of silly things but at least they are consistent that 19 is their magical age.

The first time in these United States of America, non-land owning Whites, Blacks and women were allowed to vote for their collective political future, was 1838 in Pine Hill/High Mount, Ulster County, New York.
The vote, yea or nay, to fight Democrat Landed Gentry over payments of back rent to landlords whom lost their ownership of land due to them losing our first civil war, our Revolutionary War.
