How do I invoke editing options, such as fonts, font sizes, highlighting, colors, emoticons, etc? Do I need to turn something on in my profile to enable them?

They should be there by default. The options are right above where you type. can you take a screenshot of you typing a reply?

My bad. It turns out that NoScript was blocking the script that enabled the editing functions.
