HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WETM) – An Elmira man has been arrested after an incident that occurred in Horseheads involving an illegal weapon. According to the New York State Police, Arkbar Nader, 40, of Elm…

Arkbar Nader, age 40, from Elmira, NY, who was found to have an active NYSP Felony Warrant for Grand Larceny 4th. Subsequent to his arrest, Nader was found to be in possession of a modified shotgun with a 12-inch barrel and defaced serial number. He was also found to have one round of live shotgun ammunition in his pocket. In addition to the felony warrant, Nader was charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd (D Felony) and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th (A Misdemeanor).

Nader was taken to SP Horseheads for processing. He was arraigned in the Town of Horseheads Court and committed to the Chemung County Jail on $50,000 cash or $100,000 bail bond. The New York State Police was assisted by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Department.

Ithaca break=action single shot shotgun; lever opens the action... might be pre-'68 and without a serial number from the Factory, and the Courts have ruled that having a defaced serial number is no longer a crime. having the barrel shorter than 18 inches is an issue though.

Yep, a model 66 I think? I never understood that one, its like they wanted it to look fancy like a lever action but not the functionality. Ithaca's have always had a serial number from my understanding, even back to the 1800's
