Ever trade in a gun at Sportsman’s Warehouse?

I rarely sell guns, unless I’m really just never shooting them. I have (at least definitely) two pistols and a bolt action I want to sell. Kahr CW380, FN 509 mid size, and Weatherby Vanguard II in .308 with a custom DBM installed by the late Jeff Allen of CDI precision.

I used to use gunbroker, but it’s a bitch these days and fees + transfer + shipping eat profits. Also have used consignment at the Firing Pin but since the fire they’re not taking any on.

For those with experience, how bad do they screw you on trades at Sportsman’s?

They'll give you about half of what it's worth, little more if you take a svc. Some of my best purchases, value wise, were trade in's at SW.

You'd probably do better at a LGS but you should post them here first. Not paying tax will usually take care of transfer and shipping for a buyer here.

I'll probably get around to posting them here. I have a ton of gun related stuff I've been accumulating. I'm trying to do some Spring cleaning and don't want to fill up the for sale board too much. Guns, M1A stocks, NIB Vortex scope, red dots etc. etc.... Always prefer to sell to local NYers. Less cost for me but also I like to keep it in the family.

Your best bet is Hessney Gun Auction. Drop it off and after, cash the check. They do take 13% but my local FFL takes 25%. Wide audience and they do all the work.

You’d do way better finding a LGS as the poster above said since since consignment around me is 20%. Also many places won’t take modified guns because of liability, or so I have heard. I had an aftermarket grip on a pistol and the LGS by me refused to take it. At first I thought he was joking but nope. He was a dick about it so he lost my business.
I don’t know Hennessy a curio another than by name but 13% is a great rate but it’s an auction so I would expect the Kahr to go cheap as they are not in demand these days.

Not sure if my post can save you a trip, but I recently looked into trading in a Wilson Combat Glock 19 to finance a POF Glock 19 (proud Patriot Ordnance fanboy). I was told they weren't taking in used at this time. One of the employees took a look for his own curiosity but ultimately decided a 19 felt too small in the hand.
It was recommended that I visit Avon Guns, but I ended up finding a co-worker who got his permit in before the process went crazy and was looking for a first purchase.

Sportsman’s warehouse probably is like cabelas. They will give you 1/2-2/3 of what they would sell it used for. Popularity and desirability plays a part in it. A buddy of mine down in Erie pa traded in an FN 509C MRD and got $250 for it because the 509 series just doesn’t sell that well

I like the sound of this. I used to do all the work but I have no desire. Just want some cash to subsidize a new clay gun.

That’s likely more than the Kahr would bring so good idea

I don't know about that. I've sold a few there and well to very well on each gun, other stuff is anybody's guess. I had a Bryco .380 looked new and came with the box and xtra mag, I was going to do the "buy back" thing but tried the auction and it sold for IIRC $200! Somewhere I have the paperwork with the original price of about $89.00.
Also they make a good buck on guns they sell, 13% from the seller and I think 15% from the buyer!

I just don’t see a kahr commanding a high price these days with high capacity compact 9mm like the 365 and the hellcat being all the rage. I’m certainly not an expert on this topic but that’s my gut feeling.

It probably won’t fetch a high price, but it’s very small and pocketable, where a P365 is way too big unless wearing cargo/oversized pants.

I actually like the Kahr a lot. At 15 feet or so I can punch out the center ring.

I have a CW380 and it's perfect for summer carry when wearing nylon shorts. The warmer it gets, the smaller my carry gun becomes.

Consignment sales avoid all the hassles and do cost 15%.
The FFL takes care of the paperwork, shipping and taking the payment and paying you. No 1099 from gunshops.

If you sell on GB, you have to take care of all that and still pay the tax to GB. If a pistol you have to use an FFL to ship--$$$,, and if you receive the payment--1099 time.

Is anyone in the Monroe County area taking trade ins these days? Sportsman's was not last time I checked, the OP already mentioned Firing Pin, last I heard All Star isn't at the moment either.
I have an upper and a lower that I have for sale here and GB but it's not getting much traction. I know a trade in would be a loss but I'm at the point where cash and safe space is needed.
