I'm thinking of building one. Once cell phones started removing access to the battery... I think I need one of these around.

Thinking of taking a small box, line it with foil for a few layers. Need to get a scanner to view the signal strength and confirm.

Ideally I'd like to big enough to fit the phone, but small enough I could keep it in my glove compartment or something. If I ever want to have a private conversation, or need a phone for an emergency only, just pop the phone in there before I drive.

You're overthinking the problem.

Plus, putting a phone in a Faraday cage stops it from communicating with the outside world. It doesn't stop it from recording audio for later upload.

Just turn the phone off, they don’t have a removable battery, but they do have the ability to shut down.

If you don't trust that, you need a way to verify your cage is working, use that on your shutdown phone.

Bonus for emergency use, drastically improved battery life (which is itself proof that the phone really did shut down).

In a cage the phone will burn through tons of battery trying to reach a tower, your battery will last much less time than normal. Shutdown it should hold a charge for months.

I'm aware it could still record. Hence, phone in box, and left in the car. Away from the audio source.

I think I remembered that the nsa still has the ability to evesdrop on cell phones that are turned off.

Only way to prevent that is remove a battery, which modern phones prevent from happening, or put them in a sound proof faraday cage...

That was old wired telephones when hung up.

A cell phone that's turned off can't even listen for a signal to start.

Yes, foil really does work. I use the heaviest gauge of foil that I can find.

Might be the easiest way to do it. I may put the phone in a soft bag first so the foil doesn't fuck it up, though.

Absolute best thing to do is clone you new phone ID to older phones and leave them at various places plugged in!

This way... They will never know where you really are, even if immobile. And I'm pretty sure that although cloning someone else's phone is illegal, cloning you're own is not a path they'd want to challenge!

Caveat is remember though, when cloned, it's like a multi party line, any call can be picked up and listened to on each phone... SO.... If you have someone around the phone you wouldn't want to hear what or who you're talking to, make sure you pick another lol location, lmao!

Otherwise, yeah, layer or two of foil, put it in an extra EZ-Pass bag and call it a day ;)
