This is one of those pesky gray areas where common sense is being applied. Can’t let tens of thousands of doctors and nurses get sick/possibly die so some guy can price gouge during a national crisis. Desperate times, desperate measures and all.
You don’t NEED to fix up your house RIGHT NOW. You can wait until the price drops. Nurses and doctors who NEED to save lives NEED to do it NOW.
Which is why the opposing view is just online flapping and intellectual posturing, while in reality, the FBI is seizing masks from hoarders that need to be at the point of use NOW.

I have a few n95 masks most have already been worn by me for house projects and the other one I have had replaceable canisters so that too has been worn by me.
if I’m out in public with it on does that give them the right to search my house and confiscate the other few that I have. They have no clue what I have or don’t have. How did they find out what this guy had?

I agree with you on this part of it.
What I will add is everyone knew or should have known this was coming but yet no one prepared for this. No extra masks, other PPE, or ventilators. So now this is that guys fault?
I just think they should have prepared better. Stuff was out there until recently but the USA just stuck their heads in the sand and said nope we’re better than China and it won’t happen here to us. Look where that got us.
Also keep in mind they are adamant that wearing a mask won’t prevent you from getting sick only stop you from spreading it if you are sick. So yes that will prevent a doctor from giving it to others and therefore saving lives. While I don’t believe this is true an N95 mask will likely prevent you from getting sick. Just goes to show the lies they will tell to protect who they want to.
Price gouging doesn't exist, so there is that. Just because you failed economics class is no reason to prevent people from getting needed supplies.

Ok. Did anyone buy them. Sure that’s wrong but then is it wrong that google and amazon stocks are now $1,000 per share? Is that price gouging? When they started the price per share was say $10 or $20 and now its $1,000 per share. Why is that? It’s because they increased the value of the company just like an N95 mask now has increased value. 700x’s to some yes to me no.

I’ll compare this to NYS legalizing weed. I don’t think we’d should be legal but they will do it. They are going to say you can only possess say 4oz of weed at a time, but wait it’s legal why restrict how much I can have? I know it’s to keep the black market sales down but just because I have 8oz doesn’t mean I’m selling it illegal.

Again I’ll agree with your direct statements but where does it start and stop. 200,000 masks seems like an awful lot but I’ll bet it’s less than a tractor trailer full of them.
Now that people will be vilified for having/wearing N96 masks will I be attacked or assaulted for having what I have? Not saying I will but who knows seriously.
Yes a priority should be given to those on the front lines and that includes cops but they are basically saying my life and the lives of 90% of Americans don’t matter as much as others that’s part my problem.

The government would make a public example of a small amount of supplies to discourage it. They did so for illegal food production and hoarding during World War Two.
Will they do it for someone who has some masks left over from some project? No. It’s not hoarding.
These guys they raided used means to remove these masks from the regular market to sell at a inflated mark-up. If they went to the street and gave them away or sold them at a normal price, it’s not illegal. Note a health care union in CA suddenly found they had million masks to give out. No arrests made that I know of. ( they probably should have been but that’s because they screwed over their own members and put them at risk - if not for what I think they were trying to do).
As far as the ammo hoarding, according to some forums NYC does use fire codes to limit ammo. Airborne has a possible LEOSA exception. I dont know. Also fire codes apply to the type of property it is . Airborne might store his ammo on a property that allows it. I don’t know. But to this discussion, it’s not a hoarding issue regardless unless he removed the items from the market to take advantage of the current situation.
If you guys ares scared of this as slippery slope , you should be. Go look at gold and the Great Depression.
