While I was between forums, I finished my first AR. It runs flawlessly, no matter what I feed it. Slings the brass a bit more than I'd like but that's better than the opposite problem.

The whole build went as well as I ever dared to hope. It's almost like I knew what I was doing.

Oh yeah, and FUAC.

Complete Lower Assembly:

Stripped Lower (Spikes)
Stock (Thordsen FRS, blemished)
LPK (CMMG)
Buffer kit (Mil Spec Carbine)
Ambi Safety (DSI)

Complete Upper Assembly:

Stripped Upper (Spikes w/fwd asst & dust cover)
BCG (BCM)
Charging Handle (BCM Gunfighter)
Barrel (DSI 5.56 16" M4 Carbine 1:9 Non-Threaded Nitride)
Handguard (Midwest Industries G3 M-Series One Piece Free Float, M-LOK™, 12.625" Rifle)
Gas Block (Midwest)
Gas Tube (Midwest)

The whole build cost me just over a grand, not including the Vortex Spitfire, which I got from Midway for a ridiculously low price.

No BUIS. Doesn't really need them. The Vortex Spitfire is a prism red dot so it will work with a dead battery or turned off.

Nice build. Nothing flashy, but solid and functional.

Money says you drop the riser after a week. At least, that's what always seems to happen with those (mine included.)

A week? Not even. The first dozen or so test shots, I fired into the backstop. Just to check rifle function, cycling etc. I wanted to keep the sighting target clean and I didn't even look through the scope. First some single shots, then 2 rounds in the mag to make sure the bolt hold-back and release works. Then, even with the dust cover closed to make sure the bolt doesn't snag from the additional resistance. Not a single issue.

I already had it laser bore-sighted at home so I figured I'd be on paper at 50 yards. But when I tried to sight in the scope, I couldn't do it. The riser came right off. The cheek weld is perfect without it. Man, I love that Vortex Spitfire.

I took the pics right after I finished the build but I hadn't test fired it yet. As soon as I got to the range, I realized the riser had to come off.
